Thanks guys, it looks like a professional job, the cable linking my bike to his looks like it has been frozen and shattered:
http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/363625/

(My bike was a linked to a steel post by another cable)

If it had been cropped, the ends would have a tight strand formation with triangular profiles.

It had only been there one night as we were going out to a wedding, so local knowledge is involved, hardly surprising for this part of Swindon.

There were no more than two inches between my bike and my lad's car, so they had to have lifted it out (it is a fairly light bike)
The weight of mine or the market demand for the 125 must have saved my baby. I'm just off to post pictures on any website that will have them, especially bike clubs around Swindon. I know its shooting in the dark, but I need to do something, he is absolutely gutted (as I am)

Cheers

Leigh

baldyman might i suggest a trawl around the local tracks that kids use bikes along.

i got my c90 back by doing that and also managed to **** the git that stole it before the police arrived.

Yes, that was our intention over the next few days, just hope I find them before my son.
Police interest would suddenly go from the current "If we see it, we'll let you know" to "I'm sorry sir, but you can't take the law into your own hands"
They didn't even ask for the colour or engine/frame numbers, my lad had to get them to take the details
Can anyone tell me if they are spinning him a line by saying "It will be put on a National Database" as I read in the MCN, that thieves were safe once they had crossed a county line, as Police Forces all have their own databases, to which other the other Forces do not have access? Knowing Wiltshire Police, it's probably still recorded on slate
This police dis-interest has really hit my son and as a volunteer in Wiltshire Search & Rescue he is now not accepting calls for assistance from the Police. Not an acceptable reaction I know, but understandable. These thefts really do become a stone in a lake and the ripples begin to affect so many.

Leigh, I am very sorry to hear of the theft. :(

My only experience of this sort is when my old Ford Escort was
stolen in Brighton in 1993. In that instance I found it myself on
the promenade a few days later. Your case appears to be more
serious as it has all the features of a professional job.

Will be on the lookout for your son's bike.

Leigh (and Leigh) really ****ed to hear about hear this.

The idea of freezing the chain is becoming quite common, a guy near me had his GSXR1000 stolen when it was chained to 2 ground anchors (front & rear) and had a chain going through both wheels and the frame. The just spray it with liquid nitrogen that freezes the metal to the point of making in brittle, and then hit with something.

If you need any help (especially if you find them  ) give me a shout. Theiving scumbags need to understand that stealing somebody elses property is bad for their health.....

As for the question about the police putting the details on a national computer, this is true, to an extent. They'll register the bike as stolen by it's registration number, and if they're good, by the chassis/engine numbers. This'll be on the PNC, which all forces use, and is what they use when doing vehicle/person checks. To be honest, this'll only be of help if they either haven't changed the number plate, and the bike comes to the attention of the police, or if someone gets nicked and the bike is recovered that way.
At this stage, to be honest, they probably won't pro actively do anything. :(

Just had a look through Loot online, and eBay - nothing on there I'm afraid :(

I will keep looking for you though..

WRT to the Liquid Nitrogen chain freezing - an absorbent cover would stop this? Or anything soft covering the main chain.

At the end of the day, there's only so much you can do :( If they want it, they'll have it. Maybe a good idea is to get a PC webcam type device and have it recording your garage or driveway when you're not in, with a motion activated security light. That way if someone does nick it, you've got pictures of them.

I saw recently (might have been on here) that some guy used the same technique to catch the burglar who had previously broke into his house 3 times. The police recognised the face and he was convicted.

Leigh,

I will most definately keep an eye out for you. I now it's over the other side the pond, but where I live, we get at least 10 to 15 of the little b@st@ds every weekend trondling up to road and into the forest. (To which I'm sure it's these ****ers who have tried taking mine) :x

Anyway, I will keep an eye out on my travels.

It's the time of year for the rats to come out of their hole's :x

The cable was a Xena plastic covered cable. The plastic showed signs of burning/melting, so maybe they exposed the cable strands first, then froze it B*stards
Good thinking, have added Reg No to first subject heading
