Got a stop yesterday for going to fast round one of my favorite bends.

Mr plod was going the opposite direction, but as it was a NSL road and well under 60, no worries, git turned round and stopped me.

He attempted to accuse me of taking the bend to fast. When I asked him if he was or ever had been a biker he said"no". "So how do you know what is too fast?" "you were leant over" "Of course that is how bikes go round bends. I was on my side of the road about 3 ft off the pavement so under control". "well I think you were going too fast".

So he then decides to go for the bike. Legit plate, loud can, but no markings, lights, horn, tyres are all good. Then "Have you got your documents?"

I always carry them. sealed in a plastic bag inside my leathers. takes up no room so spoiled his day with them as well. However my MOT expires today. I gave him my old but still valid certificate and never mentioned I got a new one two weeks ago.

He did comment that the MOT was only just valid. I bet he is sniffing around where I live today just hoping to nick me without an MOT.

This is the second time in the last couple of years where I have been able to produce docs at the roadside. I just wonder how many people tend to carry them and whether it stops twits like this one from persuing hopeless vendettas.

You should of said, "Well, I didn't lose control and I wasn't speeding, so by no definition could I be deemed to be 'going too fast'." :)

I am always worried about being pulled by bike-ignorant police. It'd be hard to say,' look mate, you don't understand bikes at all, how can you say what is safe?' in a polite way.

The sound of accelerating hard (and indeed, just engine noise in general on a bike) can make you seem to be moving quicker than you really are to observers.

I only carry my insurance details (rather than certificate of) and photocard driving licence (not the paper part), bike isn't old enough for MOT certificate.

The Dutch don't MOT bikes so not got one of those, But for the rest I have no choice. They can fine you an amount of cash over here if you are stopped without your docs.

I don't carry any of it... maybe photocard license if I have my wallet with me, but really it's only the breakdown/assistance type stuff.

But then I've never been pulled...

I only ever carry my licence and only reason I do that is in case of an accident they know who I am and where I live. Never carried anything in the car either.

Producing them at my local nick wouldn't too much of a hardship, rather that than carrying unnecessary things when I'm out enjoying myself. :D

Only carry driving licence and breakdown card. Anything else is for me not important. If I get a producer, no problem. It only takes a few minutes to go to the police station and it's another excuse to go out and ride the bike.

Like others, if - and it's a big if - I carry anything it's the photocard part of the licence. Nothing else................. taking the docs to Cardiff Central cop-shop isn't exactly hard for me.

Always carry the breakdown recovery card with me

I do take the docs with me if I'm going on hols for more than a week, though.

Going to a cop-shop with the docs is certainly less hassle than having to get replacements if I lost them.

My insurance is stashed with the bike and my license is on me.
Only reason I carry the insurance stuff is because of the trip to France the other week making it necessary.

At the moment I don't carry anything with me, though I do intend to put photocopies under the seat in a waterproof bag sometime in the future.

I use two different wallets, one with I.D's, credit card, car license, and some money. :driving:
The second one for motorcycling, with the license, reduction copy of the title, and some more money for emergencies... of any type. :-dd

No, never carry them with me. Just remember though that you're not in the States and you don't have to carry them with you, the police will just give you 7 days to take them to your local station.

True, but it's just one less thing to worry about if/when you do get pulled over.
The arses are shut up when you get your docs out and the nice ones are sometimes a little impressed that you bother to do it and it all gets sorted out then and there.

Add onto that, I was let off a ticket a while back, partially because I had my license with me and it was nice and clean.

only ever carry the photocard and this has satisfed the police 3 times, they can check if the vehicle is taxed and insured on there computers anyway

i dont keep them in my bike because i have heard of crims getting hold of people's addresses from there vehicles and restealing the new bike once the insurance company pays out. plus i dont want any thevies knowing my address anyway

I keep them on the inside pocket of my leathers. (Lisence in my wallet). That way I know I've got my docs each time, and they are not with the bike should the worst happen and it's nicked.

I always thought there was a reason why it was best not to have them on you when stopped, but I can't remember what the reason was

I never carry them for that reason. :?

The main reason I carry them is:

My previous bike was taken out from behind after 6 days of ownership. In doing this the rear number plate was destroyed. Attempting to write the producer the copper decides to try and get the registration number from the tax disc. but...

Wrong guess the holder obviously leaked although the printed expiry date looked perfect the hand written reg number was washed out. I could not remember it and was also at that point in shock. I ended up phoning home to ask my misses to read out the registration number off the slip from bottom the old V5.

Also as I had only had the bike for 6 days when he then did a PNC it showed up with the previous owners name/addresss so double problems. Fortuneatly as the copper had witnessed the brutal attack upon my bike/person in the first place and was also a biker he accepted at face value that I was an honest person. But advised me that some of his colleagues were not as trusting. So I now carry them just to ease any potential problem. As they are in the inside pocket of my leathers, I know they are always there. I got done £25 15 years ago for failing to produce my licence as I could not find it when given a producer. The bloody summons even stated that on further investigation it was established that Mr Wilkinson did hold a full licence entiltling him to drive that class of vehicle but jobs worths will alway win out.
