Sete was lucky to stay in the race - the 250cc race showed what can happen from a shunt
Its amazing he uses pretty much the same tactic each race.... hanging in 2nd or 3rd and just as there are 3 or 2 laps to go... makes his move... class!
ps: with motogp like this at the moment i am seriously getting bored of formula 1....
:notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
Completely - what else can that guy do
Formula 1 - not interested sorry
Couldn't resist the 'or Yes'.
Just had to be different! :D
Was in the pub last Friday, and some people were comparing bike sports with F1, saying how much better and more exciting bike sports were.

wish i had as much talent as his little finger
Whilst there is no doubt the guy is a phenomenal talent, he is starting to get too smug for my liking. When he used to do the end of race stunts that was amusing. Now he is starting to get all Schumacher. Smug tw@.

I disagee if Rossi bowes out who gives Sete a decen race and where does Vale go from here yes he's the best and surely he should be allowed to defend that crown - if it was football or another sport they would be allowed...

Formula One. I bet if he considered going the people in charge would offer him a lot of money because if he went about half the audience would disappear.

Ahh right, i didnt know that. If i was him i think i'd go for F1, if i was the best at something and got the oppurtunity to do something else, i'd go for it. Maybe he'll go back to mini moto

If he is going to go 4 wheels he'll go into rallying I think, he has already done a few rallies and he used to do karting and off road karting when he was a kid before he started on two wheels.
He's an amazing talent for sure but I'm also wondering if he's just a bit too good. Racing is at its best when several riders are capable of going equally fast, having one man who seems to have the ability to put in laps a couple of seconds faster than his nearest rival whenever is necessary isn't exactly great to watch. Look at F1 last season for proof of that. #-o

Nope he isnt a bit to good, the others arent good enough. Racing is racing i.e. riding as fast as you can and wining.
Why does this always happen, guy works hard to get to the top of his sport then gets slated for it. He's being paid to Win so my god is he going to try to win.
Was the racing today boring, no I dont think so, Rossi and Sete had a good old fight and Melandri joined in, What about the 3 way battle between Melandri, Hayden and Barros that was really good.
You dont have to watch Rossi all the time you could try watching some of the midfeld battles to.
F1 is the same Schumacher wins because he is better than the other drivers, end of. He pulled Ferrari together and made them work. Yes it was boring last year, but this year it has been much better. Today's race was exciting and had drama, what about last weekends with Raikonens Mclaren trashing its front suspension on the last lap......

exactly what i'm saying! if rossi did something else you would have sete, haydon, max, barros, melandri, capparossi ect all winning in diffrent races now that would be close!
sete was rossi's greatest rival but look whos in second MELANDRI.
if you look at who comes second all the time its not always sete,it could be anyone of them COLIN EDWARDS as evan been there! if rossi was'nt racing then the texas tornado would have won that!

I didn't criticise Rossi once, and I'm not criticising him. I 100% agree that the problem lies in the other riders not being quick enough, all I'm saying is that competitive racing is good racing and having one rider at the top who has little competition isn't as exciting to watch as a season where 5 guys are fighting to win the championship.
I've got nothing against Rossi whatsoever.
Havent seen the last two races in MotoGP, but i have heard that this rossi guy is a tad special ;)
However i did catch the last 15 laps of F1 today, and its was an eventful race thats for sure. Old Micky Schumacer aint doing to good this season, which is good.
Anhoo, back to the bikes.....

....all I'm saying is that competitive racing is good racing and having one rider at the top who has little competition isn't as exciting to watch as a season where 5 guys are fighting to win the championship.
Logically, that can only mean one of two things: either a rider - or indeed his machine - can win the Championship once and then he's out, or, if he or the bike looks like being any good, he can't enter at all!
Errr...hello? Racing is to find THE BEST. When you're the best, it's for others to take the crown away, not some crazy regulation!
I want to see Kelly Holmes win the 1500/800 metres, not the girl next door running against the fat lass from up the road! I want to see Motivator win The Derby - not watch Dobbin the Donkey race Muffin the Mule on Southport Sands! And I want to see the riders in MotoGP get good enough to beat Rossi - or move over and let some others try.
And do you know what? It's what those riders want too - the chance to beat the best, not just beat some second rate kid whose Dad bought the ride (like F1).

What tosh is written sometimes, Gibernau led the race for most of the 25 laps, he made a bad tyre decision, and Rossi chose the right tyre, as did Melandri.
In the first 5 riders home there was less than 8 seconds between them and less than a minute for all the field
As for Schumacher, and F1, if second & third on the podium is not doing very well, maybe you should put your money where your mouth is and have a go
I had to click (OR Yes) on the survey. I didn't see Moto GP GOD listed. :notworthy:

i'm the only morotrcyclist in the world not interested in racing i think.

I'm starting to worry about MotoGP a bit now though... Rossi could skip the next 2 races and still be ahead... if he keeps going at this rate then he'll have won the whole thing in a few more races...
Last year Sete was so much closer, though I guess back then he had an easier set of choices (not inundated with every Honda part going, which is his own fault as he spent last year moaning that if he'd had the parts he could have beat Rossi...) and also that Rossi was new to the bike. Now there's little chance of anyone else winning unless Rossi has some major problems... and when has he EVER had those??
I'm not convinced it'll be better if Rossi leaves though... the others will always be compared to him, and how gutting will it be for Sete and Co. to know that the only reason they're winning more is cos the big man got bored and moved on.
Rossi is a bit like Obi-Wan in episode 4 right now... if he has a terrible accident and gets wiped out, or just finishes up the season and leaves, every other GP rider will be compared to (and fail to measure up to) him forever more... 8)
Logically, that can only mean one of two things: either a rider - or indeed his machine - can win the Championship once and then he's out, or, if he or the bike looks like being any good, he can't enter at all!

Why would it mean that at all? In recent history I can't think of any rider who has dominated to the extent Rossi is at the moment. I'm not for one second suggesting there should be artificial restrictions put in to limit the success of excellent rider/machine combinations, as is the case with touring cars these days. My idea of motorsport as its best basically what you've said - the best man winning, at the end of the day. But not only that, I want to see them really have to fight for the championship, I want to see it go down to the last corner of the last race because that's exciting to watch. I'm not even saying yesterdays race was boring - I enjoyed it. I'm glad SVeeedy Gonzales sees what I'm on about though, it's no fun to see a championship decided with loads of races left to go.
If the season could carry on where Jerez started off, with Gibernau and Rossi riding brilliantly and with nothing between the two riders, then I would be a very happy man.
As for Schumacher, and F1, if second & third on the podium is not doing very well, maybe you should put your money where your mouth is and have a go
Looking at the results from yesterday it would seem that Ferrari did very well, and both drivers did drive well. However they were only on the podium because Alonso, Button, Trulli, Montoya and Fisichella dropped out of the race. It was an artificial result in a sense, and you only need to look at the constructors championship, where Ferrari are in fifth place, to see that the red cars are having real difficulty being competitive this year.

With the money that both Yamaha and Ducati are offering him I seriously doubt that F1 is where Valentino is heading. So few have succeeded in swapping over and I have to suggest that he will not hack it.
We should all enjoy the times that he is racing bikes as truly he is something VERY special, they do not come along very often. However wait and see a real challenger when Dani Pedrosa steps up. He has everything that Valentino does apart from that very cheeky personality.
There are still a lot of races to go but it is all about the battle for second in my opinion now and I am keeping my money on Melandri to win that battle. If Rossi continues he will win by a record margin and I will be there to see the last race in Valencia as I was to see the first at Jerez.
There are likely to be a few retirements at the end of this season, the names Barros,Biaggi,Gibernau easily come to mind.

at the end of the day i think we can all agree WE want to see close racing! its not valo's fault he's so much better than everyone else. my only prob is as randy mamola said "3 laps from the end he lauches his attack" and no one can stop him.as for the tyre argument rossi could have still pulled away on a knackered tyre (CUZ HE JUST CAN)

He's the dogs wotsit's as you would put it.
One of the commentators was actually working out that he could clinch the title by or at Donnington.

I would like to add that the Moto Gp race yesterday was very good, from the Sete/Valentino duel to the other great one involving Melandri,Hayden and co.
I said when Sete hit the front, he has to risk pushing it to try and leave Rossi too much to do in the latter stages, but he opted for a more conservative approach.
Rossi is a unique talent, and to suggest all of the others are crap is way off the mark, but if I was their teacher the half term reports would all say" Must try harder!"
You know that also there is a theory that Valentino has an incredible psicological edge over all of the other riders. He believes he owns them and most of them do little to change his thinking. The only guy I can see that is unaffected by this is Melandri with him being Italian himself. He is quick and very hungry to succeed and thus far is doing very, very well. 8)

Peter - That battle between Melandri, Barros and Hayden was great, best part of the race
Did you see Sete trying so hard he rode into the back of Melandri...
I agree Rossi has them beat before they get on the bike as they dont think they can beat him, I am loving the way Melandri is disrespectful and doesnt give a hoot and tries his hardest, the sliding and sideways into corners up the inside was awesome

I am just glad Rossi is on the yamaha and not the honda, otherwise he would be a lap or so ahead
the guy is a genious RAW talent. I find him cheeky but not overly smug (unlike shcumy last year) he still has good words to say about his competitors even if it is cheekily spoken.
Marcos is good but i am afraid to say not in the same league as rossi (YET)
the batle for 3rd was awesome but it was a way behind 1/2 place .

In recent history I can't think of any rider who has dominated to the extent Rossi is at the moment.
IN GPs, Angel Nieto, Mike Hailwood, Jarno Saarinen, Giacomo Agostini...more recently, Mick Doohan who was five (?) times Champion. In SBK, Foggy. In Trials, pick any one of three or four Lampkins. In MX...Joel Robert, Roger de Costa...and so on. There has always been one rider who excelled for a period, and it's always been down to the others to catch 'em up.
My idea of motorsport at its best is basically what you've said - the best man winning, at the end of the day. Well, it's hardly Rossi's fault that Sete has fallen off twice, picked the wrong tyre once, and put himself in the wrong place in the last corner once. If Sete wants to finish first, first he's gotta finish!! Don't blame Rossi - or Yamaha - there are six top line riders on Hondas that Rossi won on...only one of them has won!
