View Full Version : UPDATED: Should I be worried?
Travelling down the M20 towards Maidstone this morning, having just dropped Helen off at Luton for her week of alchohol tasting and warmth testing in Barcelona.... I guess I was doing about 90-something in the fast lane, approaching a bridge over the motorway.
On bridge, is parked a van, with it's side door open. The van is parked over the fastlane of the oncoming traffic.... I guess I slowed down to maybe a little less than 90-something (but still 80-90 something) only to realise that it was in fact a mobile camera van (surprise surprise!).
Now... should I be worried? It had what looked like a gatso inside, and there were no flashes. and it appeared to be very much on the oncoming traffic side's of the road.

They'll most likely be getting the front plates of cars Bill. I doubt he had an accomplice just for noting bike plates. It'll be ok :D
I take it you was in the car? If so, be worried, those things get ya at upto 4 mile out :?
Yes, unfortunately I was in the car.... shall expect a letter
nah 90 is standard on mway, you'll be fine.

if you think you were 80-90 because of the speedo then you'll probably just about safe, as most wont fine anyone up to a real 80-mph, so reading around 85-90 on the speedo. Don't worry about it

They may not have been looking at speed - some of those vans sit there with online number plate recognition technology, looking for cars with not Tax or Insurance - with a traffic car ready to intercept.
It all depends really....if you were in that lane doing that speed with no cars close behind or infront it will most likely have got you....but if the flow in the 3rd lane was along that speed u are prob safe.
Good luck and hope you are in the clear

More likely on a dual carriage way than a motorway for that as it is safer

i thought id be ok for my alleged 82 mph.. i wasnt... :?
Hope your more lucky,
Cheers for the advice everyone... I guess I'll expect to receive something in the post in the next week or two. I'm sure I deserve a ticket, as I'm so reckless in my use of speed, especially on non busy motorways
Ironically, just before the M20 turn-off on the M25, I saw the immediate result of what was a multi-car accident across 2 lanes. The centre car was a young woman with a child seat in the back  I very much hope they're alright. I'm sure a "safety" camera would've made all the difference there!

70mph dual carriageway, Sunday afternoon, 1 mile staright.....moved to lane two and started a 'by the book' box overtake of the only other vehicle on this stretch of road who was travelling at 65mph. As I attempted to pass, this other vehicle has seen fit to acclerate. I carried out the overatke, regained lane one at the earliest and safest opportunity, then reduced speed to 70mph. 3 points and £60 for 84mph....Bugger!
Also, I deal with speeding tickets at work, some of these cameras have triggerd at as little as 2mph over in a 30mph!
Sorry Bill, but fingers crossed for you Bro'!

I hope you're right.... time will tell!
if you do get a letter, insist for them to send you a pic of it.... and if it doesn't show your face, just say it wasn't you.. you'll end up with a warning.

Just a thought, but can't he be incriminated by his clothing/helmet etc :?: :?

Was in the car Cloggsy, not the bike.
in the car, i know someone got off with a written warning because he believed he wasn't the driver...
In face, it stated with regards to information received at the bla bla ticket office regarding the bla bla offence in which you state you are unable to identify the driver. It has been decided to offer a written warning at this time, however the same lenient steps will not be taken on a future occasion
now if the driver can not be identified, how the hell they can give him/registerred owner a warning? or do they assume the registerred owner was driving it?

They can actually do you for not being able to tell them who was driving, I believe.
Well
Checked my post this weekend, 15-16 days after the incident... and no sign of an NIP anywhere.
So, it looks like I may be alright! Hopefully I've not spoken too soon.
The Kent Camera Partnership explain that NIP's will be recieved within 2 weeks, and after some trawling through their registered sites, the bridge on the M20 is listed. They're very thorough, they publish all calibration certificates for their hardware online!

Is that really a good thing though? The fact that calibration certificates would otherwise be an inconvenience to supply means that there is one less option to throw a spanner in the works now, and less of a chance to get off for doing it.
