Just had a bike bay installed by our office, all well and good. I knew they were going to install a rail to chain up the bikes, but it is the same as road side raillings with an extra bit for the chain, now its impossable to get to the rear of the bike to chain it up or get to anything you have strapped to the back of your bike. And its impossable to get off your bike if you park between bikes and cant get though the gap of handle bars.

Pictures to come, must be one of the worst bike bays.

Must be much the same thing as the racks fitted at my local Asda, they are sort of like milking shed stalls. You need to bump a wheel over a two inch bar on the floor which gets you into the stall, but then you can't drop the bike onto the side stand as there's not enough room.

We had 'lockers' provided to put our gear in. They were supposed to be for all your gear when it's wet. They turned up and are a foot sq !!!

Their answer, fold your gear up and put it in there

They tried the bike bays too then told us we *had* to use them even though they weren't suitable ... some companies eh ...

At least they have tried. Can't you just step over it?

could but then i could fall over and sue the council for obstruction of my bike. I have seen the ones outside metrop in vauxhall and the bar is lower and the fence is lower as well. This is just stupid. I am in the process of complaining to the council to get it changed. All it realy needes is for it to be lowered in the ground a bit more.

What's really funny is that the cb500 has a chain round the rear wheel, surely if you can get to the rear wheel you can sling it round the anchor point as well?

his bike is broken and has been there for weeks, they only installed the barrier today, the bay has been there for over a month. When making the bay they had the cheek to move his bike put yellow lines around and ticket the bike, instead of moving it 2m into the bike bay.

sorry but I can go one better

Kearsney Abbey near Dover has space for about 2 bikes... on a 45 degree angled slope..

which means you cant park there because the bike will fall over which ever way around you park...

They did somthing like that in Lime Street in Bedford. The road is on an incline, not much but awkward for bikes - so they sensibly raised up one end of the bay to level it off.

Only they didn't make any kind of provision for a ramp or any kind, and filled it with tarmac which was about 6" deep at one end.

The first really hot day the tarmac melted and all the bikes went down like dominoes and onto the bonnet of the car parked next to the bay!

Needless to say after the insurance claims against the council for shoddy work leading to the instability of the bikes it was promptly dug up and concreted - and a nice little graded ramp added at the same time!

They've given you a bike bay FFS, right outside the office, and all you do is complain  Some people are never satisfied

This is surely an issue of someone going 'we need bike bays' and not actually asking a biker what is needed in a bike bay. Half a***d intentions

They did send me the plans and i did speak to them but they had no specs for the security rail, they also stupidly yellow lined the end of the dead end road so people could u-turn and hit the bikes (it is smaller than it looks). It has been fun to see people try a 30 point turn in that space trying not to hit the bikes.
