Hi, am thinking of doing this mod ( the diy version) to my 1999 svs. What are the wires used for that are disconected from the ecu.

What are long term effects on engine?

How long have people been running with these mods, just need to know that in the long term it will be ok.

Ps

I have done a search on the site but cannot find what i am looking for.

The wires that are disconnected tell the bike when it is in 2nd and 3rd gears. If it does not know it is in either retarded gear it will use the same ignition pattern as it does for every other gear. This unleashes an extra 2-3 horses in 2nd and 3rd. I've done mine 3000 miles ago to no ill effect.

That mod was on my bike for nearly 4 years (I wrote the article in the link above) with no ill effects.
Remember, you are NOT advancing the ignition timing for all gears, you are simply removing the timing retard from 2nd and 3rd.

As said, there are no ill effects, it was a "fiddle" purely for legislation reasons.

I did mine at the connector to the ignition box under the tail (pushed the pins out and taped them back against the harness so it is reversible if required), but the effect is exactly the same.

The effects in 2nd+3rd are quite subtle, you won't really notice much except maybe slightly better response and cleaner light throttle running.

It's free.
