View Full Version : Help On Summer Jacket
I'm looking for a summer jacket too keep me coool on hot days I have about £150 any suggestions?
I've been looking too. Trouble I found is that the so-called "summer jackets" just feel that they offer so little protection (especially compared to my leather jacket).
Nearest I've found to what I'm looking for is the Hein Gericke Spader jacket, £159-99, fairly sturdy textile with leather shoulders and elbows with HiprotecV, plus backshock protector (removable if you use a different back protector), waterproof, but with zippered vents on each breast and one each side in the back.
At least this feels like it'll protect you, just don't know how well the venting works.
Looks and feels good quality and value compared to everything else I've seen so far.

Hiya,
Just seen a jacket from Akito in my friends shop. Its like an onion - has leather with armor in the arms and leather going across shoulders. There is armor in elbows and shoulders. The outer outside is material, which can be unzipped to leave the leather on outside of arms and leather across shoulders with armor and the rest is mesh with a bit of back protection in the back. There is also an inner liner, which can also be removed. So it can be three layers or reduced to two or just one.
I like it but am not sure how much protection you get from the back protector. Its under 120.00 i belive.

I have an Alpinestars T-Stunt Aeroflow, textile jacket, has CE approved Armour in elbows and shoulers, and also a back protector ( not ce approved )
Has mesh vents on the shoulders and in hot weather with its liner removed is very cool once on the move.
I think they retail for about £169 I would recommend it to anybody very pleased with it.
Its in no way waterproof though even in a light shower you get soaking wet.

Not exactly what everyone else here is commenting on, but I bought mine about 4 weeks ago and it looks good, is fully protected with decent armour, is decent thick leather, well put together and has these removeable panels under the arms and sides so that on hot days you can zip these out and have nice cool air passing right round you. Works like a dream...
It's 200 squids but I think its worth it for a decent all-rounder.

IXS make a vented summer jacket. Mostly made of cordura with ventilated mesh panels where you're unlikely to slide on (under arms etc).
ce approved armour in the shoulders and elbows. £130
I just brought the Dainese Zentex Tex jacket for £130. from Infinity which has great mesh type areas on the arms, back and chest, very good armour on the elbows and can use back protector from my winter jacket. The only thing is that it has no rain protection so I'll need to gat a pack a mac for those sudden showers ( though I brought it for my Barcelona trip this summer so hopefully it wont rain 8) ! ).
Tried it out on Sat morning a it felt very comfy, will be good for the hot days commuting in London for work.
Jeez, just saw the dat of the post was July 05 ! oh well, better late than never I suppose
I have just bought a Hein Gericke light weight airy jacket with air vents in the Back front and sleaves it is cream and grey looks very odd but hopefully will be ideal for my trip to namibia.
Tried it out over the last week and its been great even when you stop you don't feel to hot as its not black. And in the morning when its a bit chilli just Zip up the vents. Its got so many holes in it its more like a string vest. Has moderate armour in back elboes and shaoulders and only cost £80

I just bought a Spada airflow jacket... It's basically fishnets :) It's fully armoured and has some patches of abrasion protectionon themore exposed points, but there's no getting round the fact that it offers less protection than leather. Still, withthe weather like it is today I'd sooner be cool and on the ball in less protective gear, than boiling over and distracted in very protective gear.

Spidi "Team" jacket, take the liner out and it's pretty cool in this weather. Liner in it's OK through the Autumn. You can also get an internal back protector.
