View Full Version : Meshed Fairings...
Hey guys,
This is a pretty simple question... I was thinking of doing the DIY mesh on the fairing to bits of my bike. Here (http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.php?t=24679&highlight=mesh) is a thread by WelshWop (http://forums.sv650.org/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=3329) and his meshed fairing. I was wondering, how you actually mount it? I am pretty sure the answer is going to be silicon or Autosol. And is Autosol much like silicon? :? Thanks for your help,
Mitch

When I did my 650 I used a glue gun. It's a little pistol that takes bars of solid glue, heats em up and spits it out the nozzle. Here's a pic of one - http://www.dickblick.com/categories/glueguns/
They're pretty cheap and are handy to have about for any job - and you should be able to get one in any hardware store.

MitchC, I wouldn't use household silicone as it is not oil resisitant. I would use No Nails/Mega Grip or something like that. Welshwop used fibreglass which sounds like a good idea.

Hey,
Glue guns, I have one in the house so that might be the route for me. How did it stand up? Worried it will corrude or not hold very well... :?

Fiberglass, that's right, I should have re-read that section. I could maybe find a fiberglass kit for cheap and give that a whirl too... Still like the glue gun, sounds easy. ;)

Autosol.
Autosol is metal polish
Anusol is haemorroid cream
Don't get them mixed up.

Must have been over 10K miles ago I did the mod. Have had the lowers off many times since and there's no corrosion from the glue at all. Bond is plenty strong too - reckon the mesh would break before the join would! If you already have the gun - just nip out and buy the glue - worked a treat for me :D

I used a glue gun..just took em all apart and built up the glue slowly...
dabbed the corners first then built up all around..has lasted very well...
Netto sell glue guns for a tenner!!....B and Q do...and the glue sticks are aabout a fiver! but- it is tres useful for other stuff too afterwards....

I used the thin mesh - its for bodywork and fibreglass work etc from halfords...its only 99p for 2 sheetsand it took 2 packs to do all mine !!
however- I know some folk have used a better grade mesh ..so its up to you

Sorry to bring up such an old thread... but do you know where I can buy some of that mesh? I looked in hardware stores like Home Hardware and they have nothing. I am calling it 'expanded metal' and what they carry is not fine enough. Any other ideas?

I just bought stuff from B&Q, very strong, and in gold annodised.

I got mine from a car modifying type place. You know, the kinda places that sell huge bodykits and alloy wheels etc.
