So this is what happens when your bike gets hit by two vans and then hits the central reservation at 70mph or so. Plus it's a good advert for why it's best to fall off it whilst unconscious shortly before it hits said central reservation.

Pretty big shock to see so much damage, seeing as I pretty much walked away from it. I was walking along looking for the yellow bikes and when I saw it I just stopped and stared. Couldn't believe it was mine

On the plus side the rear hugger was fine, and got the tax off. Couldn't get to the lock as it was mangled into thw bodywork. And I thought I'd leave the R&G bungs... don't think one of them looks up to being reused.

And it took them 3 weeks to decide that it was a write off.

That is pretty shocking

Just looking at the front wheel, the disc is broken off and a big chunk out of the wheel rim.

You were very lucky to walk away from it.

Considering your description of the accident, the bike came off surprisingly well. Still a shock to see a bike in such a state, though.

They're still sorting it all out. Guy in the right hand lane smacked his signal on and swerved into the side of me... at least one of the car drivers behind has handed in his witness statement and puts the blame 100% on the other guy, saying he clearly didn't use mirrors or make any sort of check... so it's looking like it's a good, tight, non-faulter. I wasn't overtaking or filtering or anything like that at the time, just in my own lane making my own progress. This stuff takes ages to sort. Had a minor one at xmas time and that took 5 months to fix, so I'd figure this one ought to be sorted by the end of this year.

Having also had an "experience" with the centre reservation, I am extremely happy that you seemed to have come out of it very well. Especially looking at the state of your bike. I remember looking at my bike afterwards and it made me go cold. Looking at yours I think I would have needed to sit down before I fell down.

ive looked at your poor yellow sv now a few times and it reminds me of an injured animal trying to lie down to die. what are you going to do now? are you going to get another? whats the insurance situation?

I totally sympathise, I almost suffered the same fate yesterday evening when a smokey old Landrover driver just swerved in front of me.

Evidently he didn't like bikers as he then gave me the finger as I passed him shaking my head. Makes me wonder if he did it on purpose. (he didn't signal either btw :x )

I hope the Van driver gets the full blame, bikers seem to get a raw deal when it comes to insurance claims. It's good that you got a witness statement in your favour, and even better that you walked away from it. :)

Most likely that I'll get another later this year... partly as I'll have more of the insurance money through by then, and also because my son is due in next 2 weeks and I can't see too much riding being done for a month or two then.

Carole Nash tell me that I'll get a refund of the policy as if I cancelled it on the day of the accident... purely because Equity Red Star are being difficult and won't roll it over - fair do's - I won't touch them again as an insurer, regardless of what price they're offering. Awful service and attitude. Carole Nash also say that it won't affect my NCB (all assuming it comes right and the third party doesn't pretend to be innocent). Am assuming there'll be no problem with taking out the next policy... all the witness statements, police, etc. agree with my side of things. The third party didn't seem to know what happened, just that he was driving along and then bam, there's the impact. That'll be cos you changed lanes without looking then, so often the way it goes when you do that...

It's crazy the way someparts are untouched, yet a foot away the front's been torn to shreds. Not nice.
