View Full Version : Off round the world... 1 week to go!
As some people know I am riding across to Oz on a KTM 950 Adventure. Well we leave at the end of next week!!!! 8) Can't believe it has come round so quick, just need to move out the house which has now been sold and we are away.
Quick question, is anyone interested in hearing about the trip? If so I'll post here! If not well... er, I won't!
Cheers

Good luck. I have this mixed sense of envy and yet glad I'm not undertaking such an adventure to some degree

Are you staying in Oz once there?
Yes, would love to hear of your News travels of Accompishment and if any Woe...
Whick route are you taking or are you just doing the "Follow you heart thing"
Have you a time limit or working around as I did....(or didn't as couldn't be bothered getting a job till I got to Oz, way back in 1990)
Good luck on your travels. :D

So what's the plan? Route, timetable, etc. We want all the details.
OK... Rough details are:
We leave next week and spend a month in the South of France, Italy and Greece generally touring about and being lazy! As well as topping up tans etc. In September we cross into Turkey to pick up our visas for Iran, then we sill spend a month in Turkey, mainly running round the coast but also taking in all of the major ruins etc (I'm an archaeologist by qualification so like all that stuff!!!)
In October, when it begins to cool we'll head into Iran and spend a month touring Iran - really looking forward to this bit - it is meant to be spectacular. Once the visa has run out we cross the border into Pakistan and spend a month there. This is the big unknown, there is a 660 K run to Quetta along the Afghan border which should be fun!!! Whilst there we hope to get up the KKH road to the Chinese border, we won't be let in but should get some cracking views of K2 and Everest!
Once done in Pakistan we'll cross into India running down the west coast and spending Chrstmas and New Year in Goa. We've been to India a few times so we probably won't go to Agra etc but spend as much time off the beaten track as possible. After Christmas we'll cut across and head north up the east coast and then up into Nepal from where we are planning to fly the bike to Bangkok.
From here about 2-3 months taking in Thailand, Malaysia, Laos and Cambodia. Also if we can smuggle the bike into Vietnam we will (All bikes above 250cc are banned!!!), if not we'll go on foot! Then probably from KL we'll fly to either Perth or Darwin and then spend a few months in Oz. I did my PhD there so we'll be catching up with mates seeing sites etc eventually winding up in Sydney in about 14 months time.
From there who knows... If the money is OK, we'll fly to S America and ride back through the America's if we are poor we'll fly back and I'll have to bow to the march of time and kids and proper jobs etc...!
But for now live for the day, be free for a while and generally live the dream have had since I was a kid! I cannot wait!!!!!!
Obviously all of the above is subject to change!

Sounds like fun. :P
It might be worth setting a website up before you go to record the trip, or write a report for one of the bike mags, they might even pay you a little bit of baksheesh :D
