i have just fitted a set to my sv because the garage i go to didnt have any cr8e's in stock. the bike feels a bit more responsive. just wondering if any one else has fitted the cr9e's and noticed any diffrence. many thanks. jamie

you're safe going that way, the NGK scale means higher numbers = colder plug.

The Champion convention is the opposite, higher number = hotter.

The only possible downside (though probably won't happen) is that you could get cold fouling, most likely just after starting from cold when you try to pull away, especially if the weather is cold/damp too.

If you do experience cold fouling, the solution is to start the engine normally then very gently ease the speed up gradually to around 3000rpm and hold for about 30sec, this gets the plug temp up reasonably quickly. Do NOT blip the throttle (it adds extra fuel and makes fouling much more likely :roll: ).

Under normal conditions one grade on the plug wouldn't normally affect the feel as you describe, it could just be that they are new compared to your old ones. :wink: New plugs have sharp edges on the centre electrode and the sparks are theoretically better placed in the mixture and tend to be more concentrated too.

I certainly found going to the Iridium design made subtle differences to the feel at light load and tipping-in after overrun etc., so yes you can feel slight changes after changing plugs.
