View Full Version : Anyone seen my numberplate?
I seem to have lost it between Soho & Oxford.
Darn i never had to put bolts it before when i was restricted, totaly forgot that i have more power on the mways. The guy i was with on a TL did not see it come off. Odd.
Anyway time for a new one.
PS. If anyone sees it tell me. (oh you want the reg, nop)
Anyone seen my numberplate?
I might have done. Was it kinda square and yellow with a combination of black letters and numbers?
Mine fell off my new K5 after 200 miles. They tightened the plastic bolts to much and they sheared off. I eventually found my plate at the side of the road but in a state. Bought a new slightly smaller one and a tail tidy at the same time.
I reported it to the police just in-case it gets picked up by someone but you can buy a new one on ebay for about £12
Because my bike is an 02 plate, do i need to get an official one?
Anyone in s.london that make them? I realy dont have time to show my docs.

If you have a halfords they do them for £12.99
Just replaced mine as it half melted cos one bolt came undone so it hung infront the exhaust for a while! Im about to get a smaller one though from http://www.malplates.co.uk/signs_bike.php if its small (7x5 is good) then you dont have to show docs

oh and bolt this one on tightly :D
That was the problem it was not bolted on, usaly in london i only have it velcro'ed on, when i was restricted the speed was not a problem to it on the mway's, but now being full power must have caused it to fly off. Sometimes i put the bolts in on a windy day but today i did not.
Woops.

Which brings me to the point about parking, tax disks and number plates. Where do we stand legally when parked with out number plates covered (or removed a la velcro) and our tax disks safely tucked up in our wallets? ('Cos lets face it, you would be mad to leave it bolted on your bike these days. I have had several nicked off my bikes over the years, so I don't bother putting them on now.) I think it's only a producer for not showing tax disks though. Can I be ticketed? Can they ID the bike? Can they tow my bike away and crush it?

If the traffic warden can't get your details from the bike without disturbing it in any way you can't get a ticket at that moment. If the police see your bike without a tax disc or number plate on show then you can get an FPN for that, if the bike is parked with no disc and no plate then it can be considered abandoned.

What is an FPN and what is the outcome of the police finding an abandoned vehicle? It doesn't mean much in my part of town (N.London). There are abandoned vehicles here everywhere. (Mind you the Islington council does seem to be cleaning up it's act on that one)

FPN = Fixed Penalty Notice, just a fine in this case, though if they catch you repeatedly worse things can happen.
Supposedly they can have the vehicle disposed of. I've heard they're quite keen to do this in central London, maybe they don't care in your area. There aren't often abandoned cars in mine, so I don't know how long it takes.
