Well I got back from Nurburg and completed 3 succesful laps of the ring. One of which was in the wet and was probably the scariest thing i've ever done. More scary infact than when I was riding back to my hotel hooning it down a nice open road at a very silly speed before turning a corner and being faced with a large roundabout.

OMFG!!! Hit the brakes but not much time to stop, what do I do now? Two options, one was to try and lean the bike round and take the first exit right, however with the tightness of the corner and the speed I was doing I would more than like have pegged out and low sided the bike.

So the second and final answer was to hit the roundabout straight on and hope for the best. So I hit the roundabout, fly up and then off this thing, before landing sideways in the grass on the otherside. Im then thrown off and slide off into the road.

We check the bike afterwards and the main damage seems to be on the front wheel which is bent to ****. Forks seem fine   But im waiting for the insurance company to cart her back so I can do a full assesment of the bike.

I survived the accident as you can see with little more than a scraped shoulder where my bloody expensive belstaff jacket ripped apart  All my leathers stayed together fine and are only scuffed.

Anyway, talk over, the moral of the story is, fear roundabouts!!! LOL :D

You can just about see my tyre tracks, where they start and where they leave the ground :D

if you had made it back on two wheels to carry on riding i would have loved to seen your face

You should have seen the faces on the people in the car waiting to pull out on the otherside of the roundabout ... was a picture :D

i know how you feel got knocked off a few month ago, do you now how the bikes getting home?

i had to get a mate to come and pick me up which was a monumental hassle getting everything in the right place, i also am £2500 down until the other guys insurance pays out,

did the police come, i found then quite amusing but very, very good - super efficant in true german style

Not many people would survive the Nurburgring unscathed then get half-killed bu the Nurburgbout...

My insurance company are bringing her home for me, could be up to 2 weeks but im just glad she's coming home.

Ring was hella scary, one of the blokes I went with only did 1 lap cos he was so scared. My advice is dont do a wet lap ... its like riding on ice the whole way round.

personally I would have gone for option one. lean the bike and trust it and if it does it fine, if it doesnt, a low side and slide is probably better than flying through the air. especially if theres a risk of the bike landing on you.

but glad youre ok. bikes mend, people are a lot harder to fix. :)

Glad you're ok Sprocket shame about the bike. Good job it wasnt the rounabout at the entrance gates with the big metal sculpture.

It's no joke on those road surrounding the ring A256/258 just got back from there myself yesterday. It was p*ssing down and i reckon they use different sort of tarmac over there cos it was like riding on a top coat of olive oil. They put so many white lines all over the roads too that you just spin up sideways if you so much as look at one. Keeps you on your toes though :P

I didnt get on the ring after all the bl**dy place was shut when i got there on thursday 28th July at 19:45  so i thought i'd swing by on the way back yesterday got there 11:30 but it was closed to the public till 17:30 couldn't hang about cos had ferry to catch.  :( so i'll have to go back another time.

The weather was pretty poor for most of the week i was on the continent got cought in rain or thunder storms every night bar 2  . Fortunately it was a nice day at Sachsenring for the MotoGP. :D

Made it back though over 3200miles, 8 countries and a pricipality later. :)

How long were you out there for?

We headed out last Thursday and stayed in Belgium the first night before heading to Cochem on Friday. Theres some lovely roads from Cochem to the ring and was on those roads I had my crash. Had Friday and Saturday at the ring though. Did a lap on Friday with all our gear on the bikes. Then got 2 laps in on Saturday but was wet for a lot of Saturday. Did one lap in the wet which was the scariest thing ever, was like ice the whole the way round.

I was glad I got to do the ring before crashing (off the ring) LOL I still couldn't believe I didn't crash ont he ring but on an open road :D

Glad you had more luck with the track time than me

Did you look in the Suzuki/Ducati/BMW bike showroom on the perimeter road by the nurburgring short curcuit? Quite a plush shop.

No wish I had, just kinda looked at it as I flew past :D Went to a Lewis bike shop though cos I needed a new lid, very big. Loads of stuff more so than most places here.

Yeah they are pretty switched on for bikes over there, went past quite a few big glass fronted corporate branded ones.

Yeah its a fantastic country, full of petrol heads and all the drivers are very courtius. It seems that everyone will pull in so you can get passed.

Sorry to hear it matey. I was lucky enough to have took me bike there and back in a van.

I agree about the ring though, brill and scarey all at once.

Good to see you there. Did you see the red naked sv650 with a bandit fairing in the entrance car park?

No what was that all abooot!
