seem to be SPECS by look of it.... certainly not the box camera. 3 yellow overhead cameras on blue poles evenly spaced.

Wrotham Hill, M20. Forward AND rear facing cameras.

To be honest I dont have a problem with them there. That stretch is a nightmare in bad weather with muppets going to fast down that hill. And if it stops people speeding up the hill and the insane lane changes that often go on in that stretch then Im all for it.

And if it stops the beamer from trying to rear end me as I hit a bad patch of weather cos he thinks 130 is the speed minimum then great too.

Because Wrotham Hill always is bad in winter because its high up. Its often foggy and damp when the rest of the motorway isnt. So if it slows people down when they get into that stretch then its a good thing.

Damn... have I really just said that... :?

Agree with Lyn - some nutty things go on on that Wrotham Hill bit of the M20. Especially with the amount of very slow lorries chugging their way up and blocking up the middle lane.

So what's the deal with these specs cameras then? observe the limit when going through them and behave yourself in general?

Aye, shes said the same. Shes a very good driver (well, a 2.0 turbo corsa, u'd need to be) and she gets people flying past her, tailgating in the wet etc...

Speed cameras work by picking up your initial speed on the first camera, picking up your speed on the 2nd camera, and then work out the average speed/time it took to go between the two.

No more slowing to 70mph, then speeding up lark, it'll get you.

Maybe you could try doing 70 through them , going up to 120, then slowing down to 40, then back up to 70 as you go through the cameras. I wouldn't want to try though

theres three sets. No road markings - apparently the SPECS dont need them.

Do what I did this morning, slow to 70 past the m26 turn off and just take it easy till youre round the corner at the top [london bound].

Did have a muppet behind me this morning who couldnt get into the outside lane and was in a bit of a hurry despite the fact at 70 I was in the middle lane overtaking slow lorries in the left lane. Well he was till I pointed to the cameras :D

Specs do an avaerage speed reading, which is good and bad.... If you go in a bit hot you can slow down and take in some extra time, but if you're riding on the limit it gives you no chance to power past something on an overtake....

What distance are they over ?

I think its a good mile - 2 miles down that hill theyre over. Am on my way up to Northampton tomorrow so Ill measure it.

I did see a sign for roadworks for 11 weeks. So either theyre putting them in for that reason or the road works are for installing them. :?

Ahhh, the old "roadworks" gag.... Let's reduce the limit, stick up a specs system and when the work's finished leave the cameras around until everybody's used to them.....

Nothing to do with revenue though

That what they have done on the M42, the Matrix signs and the speed cameras cause accidents.

There are some SPECS cameras betwen J20 and J21 on the M1, although no-one knows who put them there :!: yeah right!

The local highways agency said they havent authorised them, the Police have said they have no clues as to the origin

I thought that they were not going to put up any more new cameras as they were doing some kind of review on the current ones?

So if no one authorised them to be put them there, and no one thinks they're meant to be there...

Will they tell me off if I knock them down with my JCB? :-k

is a bit hard to miss 4 miles of lane closures. :P
going over the white chevrons just past the wrotham turn off is, er, interesting to say the least

but Im still amazed at how many people are still hacking through there at 70+. :?

Hence the reason I use the A20...a bit more exciting and less cars and I get to go through some twisties on the way through... :) :) :)

I do occasionally unless I want to just get home. or its raining. at least the M20 doesnt flood in heavy rain, just horrible on the concrete. but nothing near approaching the flood i rode through on the a20 last winter. for some reason its given me an aversion to that road in the wet

SPECS cameras can't get bikes as the ANPR software reads numberplates of vehicles going towards them not away from them..

they are not home office approved to operate in any other way so you are immune from a NIP if on a bike.

There's a new type coming out soon though, that do you from the rear  not sure when they're coming out though.
