:D Try not to be over confident and ride like everyone on the road is your enemy... but there not trying to kill you...! if you know what I mean.
Observe the speed limits and aways look over your shoulder to see whats you missed in the blind spots of the mirrors.

Worked for me 20 years ago..

Good luck M8 4 tomorrow.

p.s. Don't turn up Pi$$ed , it doesn't go down well.

When you're pulling away from the side of the road - don't put your indicator on until you can see a gap to move off into. In other words, don't just sit there with your indicator flashing - because if a car stops to let you out then you'll fail for "affecting the behaviour of another road user".

I did that on my test, but because no b*stard let me out, the examiner said it was fine, because I didn't affect anyone's behaviour. So, they weren't actually b*stards for not letting me out - but lovely people who helped me pass my test. :D

An example of how test riding behaviour is so different to the post-test habits we all pick up.

Good luck! [-o<

Most importantly, RELAX.

Remember on a roundabout you only have to go round it slower than you usually do the once. After this if you pass you can carry on going round roundabouts faster.

Dont put your foot down on the u turn.

Remember to do your life savers. Better to do too many than too few, but not too many that youre not looking ahead.

Check your mirrors, make a distinct head movement so the tester can SEE you doing it or make eye contact with him in the mirrors.

Dont go through amber lights. A guy on visordown failed for that. Be prepared to stop at lights.

Ride like all road users havent seen you and want to kill you - its how you'll ride after the test.

Dont speed.

Dont worry about leaving the examiner behind. Its his job to catch up with you unless he says otherwise before hand.

Be prepared for the questions he may ask - usually about carrying pillions or basic maintenance of the bike.

Good luck.

my cousin had his last friday and was poo'ing himself too,but he passed with only two minors! just relax and enjoy

relax.

ride for yourself.

be aware of sped limits !! and when the limit goes up check your mirrors and steady increase speed to it.

likewise on approaching a slower speed are eg 40 down to 30.... mirrors again and dab your brakes to let the examiner know you seen the lower speed- of course you can engine break on an SV...but he wont know if u seen it!! until you slow yer speed.

dont worry about the Q's they ask you- they are simple ....!!

have a ride out to the test centre tonight- bit late now- or if u know the centre then imagine which ways you can go!!!.... and prepare- I was lucky- MAcclesfield is on a one way street so you can only go one way initially.

clean yer gear !!...clean boots, visor no dead flies on yer kit ! all is first impressions and although cant fail you will make you feel better if you look the part.!!

rememebr- if you make an error--- carry on it may be minimal..but when you get back to base- dont relax!!! examiner may ask you a few Q's about any areas you slipped up on just to clarify your position!!!...

eg_: I STALLED !!! on the first corner..thought dam thats it I have had it !! so rode my own ride.!!! (was a diff bike i wasnt used to- myexcuse)...... thought i had failed...but apparently i rode very veery well (examiner said after !!) but to clarify he asked me after . what happenned at the first corner Dave ?.... I thought you had stalled. but you didnt sid you?......
what a nice man- for an ex copper- he knew I had!..but knew it was a one off and gave me a leading question to say No i didnt stall..and I passed..

So.... relax, enjoy it , its all over in 30 mins and ..!! above all..it isnt heart surgery- yes you want to pass- its an ace feeling---- but !! it isnt life threatening.

if examiner on a bike fine, if examiner in ac ar still fine!!..dont htink ace if they in a car and u think it makes it easier- treat both hte same..if yu get no instruction in your ear go straight on at junctions..!!

I hope you pass matey, fingers crossed for you...
have a good sleep tonight , dont drink any beer tonight and get some toast down you in the morning and water !!

good luck- ride safe.!

Relax and trust in yourself. I went all the way through mine saying s$$t ive failed!!

If you have met the required standard you will pass (this one helped me, it was my mantra)

If you don't it really isn't the end of the world...its just cr@p that you have to wait

P.S. my examiner stayed really far back on my test, even though i was told that he would ride quite close...if this happens don't worry - you know what the limit is, get up to it if its safe. (my instructor reckons he was seeing if i would doubt myself and slow down)

I found talking to myself all the way round helped a bit. I constantly told myself to relax, read all signs out loud, checked mirrors every so often etc.

(didn't stop me doing a mini wheelie coming out of a side road  - just goes to show even if you may a boo boo you still might not fail - the wheelie cost me 3 minors- gears, speed, acceleration. Although it makes me sound cool 8) )

exactly what I was saying...

when I stalled .an oncoming van changed lanes into the outside lane- it was a right turn onto a one way system...examiner said if the van had needed to brake and his bonnet had dipped!!..I would have failed....
they arent out to catch you out- they dont have a quota to fail each day and if they have had a row with the mrs they are too proffessional to let it bother them!!...they are nice really- and they DO want you to pass.

SUPERB ADVICE

remember- examiner cant hear you so chat away !!..talk yourself through it ...up coming junctions etc..

rememebr lights- prepare on amber- mirrors and lifesaver and go on green..!

HAS YOUR INSTRUCTOR SHOWN U AN EXAMINATIONSHEET..
I CAN SCAN MINE AND E MAIL IT YOU IF YOU WANNA SE EONE..

but- you can have some minor faults - i had three! so dont worry..

put my foot down on my u turn early into my test. as Id been told that was an instant fail I just went sh*t and then rode knowing Id failed. On way back to test centre examiner asked me to do a left turn which was odd I thought, asked me to pull up and then asked me if I wanted another go at the u turn.

yes said I and then watched him go down the road, get off walk the pan round and ride back with me supressing a smile cos he couldnt u turn the pan :D. one perfect u turn later [mantra of keep the revs up, keep the revs up going through my head] rode back to test centre.

he marked it as a minor. and thats all I had on my test sheet.

though this has a lot to do with the examiner tbh and how good a mood hes in. I know someone on here failed for foot down on the u turn. yet I got another go. go figure. :?

Think most of the tips are covered - it's a combination of relax and focus... think I took my test 25 years ago and in those days I have no idea how you could fail as the examiner was wandering around on foot many yards away...

Ah, that'll be me then

I've never heard of Cazza's thing about indicators. DO remember to switch them off. You will fail if you don't. I rode around pressing the cancel switch all the time just to be sure. I still do.

Don't let the bike roll back on a hill start or at traffic lights. That's a fail too.

Oh and make sure the instructor leaves you the right bike. Mine disappeared on my bike so I had no L plates. Examiner was not amused.

Relax & enjoy the ride. Good luck

further to my stall!!!

like Lynn- he gave me another go...

he made me stop and pull over to the side about 4 times..and then just said ok move off when ready!!!..

so was obvioulsy bein nice and double checking my throttle/clutch control..

but then!!!>>> I am 38 and not an 18 year old wizz kid biker boy- not that it should matter !!..but I do think a serious and mature approach on the day helps...leave the jokes til in the pub later !!

know what??
i am actually feeling the nerves again for u- hope u in bed now and gettin some good sleep..
looking forwards to tommorrow night to hear your result.....I will be on just after Eugene has won Big brother !! yeaahhh

...I've never heard of Cazza's thing about indicators.

Yes it's true, I failed for what was just turning the indicator on  , and I only got 3 minors in total so I was gutted. In my case I looked in my mirrors after he told me to move off and indicated, but then I saw a few cars approaching so I let them pass before moving off, and that was considered a serious fault, only indicate if you are going to move off is what the examiner said, what a joke. Needless to say I never indicated once to move off in the test I passed, going on the basis that there should be no one behind you when you move off so no one to indicate to either, and the examiner didn't even comment on it.

So I would say don't indicate to move off as you don't need to, just keep an eye on the examiner though and if you see him do it then do it, and good luck!
