Hi
New here, please be patience.
This is my query, I really fancy an SV but the seat height is 800 and I am only 5' 5" :( so it is rather tall. Actually the tips/points of my toes touch the ground, heres the question. Bike shop said with lower seat and lowering of bike they might just get 30mm Are any of you lot small riders and how do you cope? 2) Is there any way of bringing the height down by 50 --80 mm? Thanks for any help

TIA

At 5'5 your taller than me and i manage on my K5. I've had it lowered but not had the seat cut down. You shouldn't really have any problem, you just need to adapt to shifting you **** over a bit so you can get one foot flat on the ground when you stop.

Heh thats really cool, I was definately going to get it lowered, thought about taking the seat down as well.
Thanks a million for the info again

On my Wife's SV K4S we cut the seat down as far as possible, fitted longer suspension linkages and pushed the forks up through the yokes, to keep the geometry. These changes lower the bike by over 2 inches.

She's 5' 3"

Also changed the rear shock for a Hagon with a spring and damping tuned to her weight, about 9.5 stone.

However, even 14.5 stone of me riding the Bike, it still handles O/K!!!

I would just go for the seat lowering for a start. at 5'5" you are about average, and i know of at least one person that height that has no trouble with the std height :D

5'5"? You're fine!! I'm not even 5'2"!!!!!

Have a look for a lowered seat and what about built up shoes? You don't want to start tweaking the bike unless absolutely necessary and at 5'5" I wouldn't have thought you would need to. The longer links are good too.

Good luck!!

Me too only just 5'2"!!

Once its lowered you will be fine, especially if you have been coping as is for a while. My main problem is getting used to the weight.

%' 3 1/2" and all I did was have about 1 1/2" taken out of the seat = no problems.

Suzuki do a lower seat for around £28 that takes 10mm off the ride height.

Worth getting that and getting that one cut - that way you can always put the original back on when you eventually sell the bike.

I'm also 5 '5 and just getting the lower seat, rather not mess with getting it lowered.

Thanks a lot for all the info, but heres a little twist to the query. I am assuming you are all experienced riders, what about a newbie, would they find it as easy as you are saying?

The ever worrying

I've not been riding a year yet and had a curvy before my K5 that wasn't lowered just had the seat cut, so it should be no problem for a newbie. :D

Once again thanks to you all for helping out, its makes it a lot easier than just juming in with two left feet
Took your advice and just oredered one this morning, blue with lowered seat and fairings.

Cheers
PS
Will let you know if I needed a ladder :D

You'll be fine. I'm just 5'2" and managed fine with just a cut down seat on the SV :)

I'm also 5'5 and can get both balls of my feet touching the ground. I can also get one flat foot down fairly easily. Only problem is it's a bit of a struggle to reverse the bike but i'm working on a technique.

just out of interest how much does it cost to get the seat cut down, or do you DIY, if so how easy is it to do that?

I'm also a newbie - but cause of work commitments can't take my DAS for another 5 weeks

What makes it worse is that I have TOUCHED my bike (prob the last black K5 out there) ....

Good luck with it all and make sure you post the pics like said, I know I will be, after all with 6 weeks of foreplay to contend with I want a pic of iit clean and innocent before I make it deerrrrty

Nope, don't worry! I was as new as they get - the first time I had ridden a bike was on the DAS course and I already had my SV on order :)

Had the SV lowered yesterday when it was at the garage for the 4000 service. Makes a hell of a difference to manoeuvre and gives you a bit more confidence.

Don't worry Ray, I only passed my test in June. At 5ft 4 1/2in I opted for the Suzuki lowered seat and mine is fine now, I can get the balls of both fett down as well as the seat being lowered it has also had some taken out of the width as well and that makes a difference too. :D

I've got wee little legs and can only put both feet down on tiptoes with the lowered seat. Had the bike a week, its no problem riding around but I've given up doing any reversing on the bike (I'm luck a duck waddling on ice!), so I jump off and push the thing. Is that so bad....

I only passed 3 weeks ago and got the bike last Saturday. You'll be fine.

Another thing I have is some daytona ladystar boots, they make me an inch taller!! It means that even though i'm only 5'2" and have bike lowered with longer dogbones I can actually get both feet on the floor!

I did't want to take anything out of the sit for fear of a numb bum on long journey

Ive got it and its beautiful. I can nearly get away with the tall seat but it is nerve racking. Should get lower seat next week. Want to post pics for you but you will need to help me post them :?

5'5 you've got almost 4" on me

I had mine lowered, hubby did it for me see here (http://www.bikersoracle.com/suzukisv/forum/showthread.php?t=66&highlight=lower). He also took the carving knife to the seat and took another couple of inches off.

On the flip side Im 6'3 and was thinking about lowering the seat because all my weight is on my writs as I have to lean over more. At least once your moving at 5'5 its probably a better riding position.
