View Full Version : Bike security advice
Okay, what else could be done to make this more secure? Bike is inside a timber shed, also fitted with Datatool S3 alarm, disk lock front wheel, disk lock rear wheel and chained to a flimsy set of ikea shelves through the rear wheel. A ground anchor cannot be fitted due to the shed being on a grass base. Anything else to make this a bit more secure :?: Your suggestions please
Already has the alphadot thingy on the bike...

I assume timber shed is locked? Is there anything more solid you can lock bike to? In my case I use an old pottery kiln which my wife never uses which does as an apprentice ground anchor. Is there a power supply in the shed, if so you could use timers with lights which might deter opportunists. Some people on here have rigged up CCTV...

You could use a bucket of cement as a ground anchor.

You could use a bucket of cement as a ground anchor. would not do much good could just be yanked out/dug up
how about a wirefree PIR alarm system? Not hideously expensive, batteries last quite well nowadays, reasonably good range too.
Just for example try Screwfix (not recommending them, just an example).
How far is it from the shed to the house?
There are wirefree magnetic door switches or you could fit a PIR motion detector inside the shed (or both), and a sounder at the house which can be heard from the shed to scare them off (hopefully). You can have them so they'll switch lights on in the house if triggered.
Alarm signs on the shed door might put them off trying? :?
you could always find something really heavy to put your ground anchor into - like howabout a cement floor ?

a large shotgun and a wilful disreguard for the law should do the trick.
Chain - or put something in the way of the door that makes a lot of noise to move?
I'm gonna buck the trend... IMHO I think you have enough. If you make it look like a fortress it will look even more tempting to a thief as it will look like something valuable is in there.
If the professionals want it they will take it anyway.
My setup is similar, locked shed, disc locks, i also fitted an alarm to the shed but I didn't put the deterrent stickers on.
Make sure your shed windows are blacked out (sorry if that is obvious, but what they can't see, they can't steal)
I am currently working on a ground anchor as my shed is on paving slabs but thats it.
Remeber to weigh up security with how long it takes you to get through it all. My mate has a bike that it taked him 30 mins to get out of his shed. Great for security but v inconvenient. half the time he can't be arsed to get it out!

if anything I'd make the shed more secure - alarms (as previously mentioned) or heavy hinges and good bolts. Has the shed got windows - if so it would make it more vunerable. If all else fails you could put a Neighbourhood Watch sticker on the bike - that would scare them off
I'm with Jenni. My bike lives on my front drive, simply attached to a ground anchor (sunk into concrete) under a cover. It's alarmed and alpha dotted but if a thief really wants your bike they're going to get it.
The only other tip i've got is attach rape alarms to the door so they go off if someone enters. Simple, cheap and ba**ard loud.
Trip wire mine. I've got one that uses 12 guage shot gun blanks... Haven't tested it yet tho...
BOOM!!!
