Sorry, bit of a pre-amble here. On a recent ride out I was turning out of a left hand t junction giving it a little too much gas whilst leant over and felt the back end slide out, followed by a fairly nasty shake as I rolled off the gas and the bike caught itself. After having a slight brown leather moment I went back to have a look at the road as it was lovely dry, warm day, and I have been faster/jerkier before without the same effects. There was a fair bit of gravel there which would have led to the skid (poor obs on my part), but what I want to know is - the accepted wisdom in this case should be to stay on the gas I believe rather than roll off ...

1) Is that the right thing to do?
2) How the hell do you train yourself to do that?

Obviously I'm going to try to ride without getting myself into high side scenarios, but am keen to know your thoughts!!

The truth is (honestly) to improve observation. And if the situation should ever arise, be smoooooth when easing of the throttle to avoid a highside (which it sounds as though you nearly had). Put it down to experience and store it in your databanks for next time ;).

sounds like you were in 'highside 'territory but you saved it  you were lucky .if you would have kept the gas on prob a lowside ,re teaching yourself ;unless your rossi/edwards/any famous bike racer/or are VERY VERY good i dont think you can .the guys that know what to do have prob been thrown off b4 in that very scenario, theyv learned through experience .best avoided for mere mortals (quick way to hospital/wrecked bike).btw im a woos ignore this
