Hello all.

I recently got my first proper bike (and license) so i haven't managed to get all the gears i want / need yet.
As i rode in to work today, stopping at a red light, i got my shoelace caught in the gear when i put me foot back on the pegs.
Now this gave me a bit of a scare, so i think i need to go and buy my self a pair of proper riding boots.
The problem is, i spent all my mony on my sv650s, so i need to find a decent cheap pair.

Can anyone recommend a place in london (i only know of hein gericke, which is quite good i think) that does good biker boots that aren't to expensive?

Proper boots are vital and you won't get better value than HG - expect to pay around £100.

If you go elsewhere you're likely to pay a lot more and unless you've really researched boots and their manufacturers you're likely to buy something you regret later.

I've got a pair of Frank Thomas boots, which though comfortable and warm, contrary to their blurb, are not waterproof, so I wouldn't buy them again. My next pair are likely to be either HG or Alpine Stars.

http://www.altberg.co.uk/

Mail order hand made boots, bullet proof for sod all money.

Took mine on the BMW off road course, fell on them more times then was sensible, never so much as a broken toe nail and waterproof thru the lake.

Comfy, and bloody good value

oh and won the Ride rider power thing last year

Thank you all!

eBay sounds like a place as well.

It's quite hard since im completly new to bikes and don't really know what you should get and so on, so thanks for all the ideas.

I saw quite a few pair of cool boots, hard to decide.
But i suppoes waterproff is a good idea.

Thanks again everyone!

gerickes own brand are excellent, otherwise Akito boots at J&S are ok for th eprice , you can pick up apair for about£35, be careful with e-bay unless youve tried the same type on for fir somewhere else

That's quite cheap!

Might check that out as well.
Found their homepage (if it is this one: http://www.jsaccessories.com/).

I got some Sidi Blackrain and they are comfy, have proved waterproof and offer decent protection for 110 quid. Do not buy cheap boots...protect your feet properly so make sure whatever you have offers good protection

I would only buy online if i had tried boots in a shop somewhere

Can't beat sidi boots.

If you're on a budget go to your dealer, try the ones on that fit, then buy them on ebay. Sneaky, yes - but could cost half of the dealer price.

You can do very well on e-bay and get some real bargains if you are a crafty shopper. I went and looked in shops and tried on a variety of leathers and boots, got to grips with what sizes I was for each manufacturer and then started looking on e-bay. With boots, I bagged myself a bargain pair of Alpinestars for half their retail price. If you are shopping on a budget it may take a bit longer but your money can go much further.

I've got these too - I've absolutely no complaints about them whatsoever. They've been warm & 100% waterproof in winter - and lightweight enough for the summer. They're also really comfy in case you need to do any amount of walking in them. I'd buy them again. I'm sure I paid £130 or so for them though.

In my opinion, buying proper kit is just as important as buying the bike. You must give yourself all the protection you can. The bike can always be repaired / replaced. You can't be.

Sidi Blackrain for me too - very comfy, waterproof and reasonable to buy.

They win my vote :D

Being a family man I can't afford the expensive stuff :( . Bought a pair
of Akito Vipers for my birthday 18 months ago (£50) and have been
wearing them since. A few months ago bought a pair of generic
motorcycle boots from Aldi for £25 and keep them in reserve to
replace the Akito's when the latter pass away.

On some rare occasions when I can't change after the ride I wear
non-motorcycle "work boots". The trick is to pass the ends of the
shoelaces around the ankle so that the remaining bit is very short
(this is also often done with skates), in which case the shoelaces
won't get entangled on the levers.

Your feet are so exposed - it really is worth spending as much as you can reasonably afford and getting a really good pair. I have never never regretted the £130 I spent on some Sidi Vertigos. The fit's excellent and I could wear em all day. And they don't leak.

HG speedkings or speedmasters, which ever they were, £100 (asked for a discount) and have had nearly 8k miles of waterproof protection including a 3k mile trip round france. Climed mountains and everything. Fantastic

D'oh! Mine leak at the first sniff of water, so I've got some Oxtar tcs goretex for the wetter weather, but I'm not that impressed so far. Showerproof, but I don't have any confidence that my feet will stay dry in some proper rain.

On a budget my first boots were Raven Exceed

They have been waterproof and comfortable, the only problems being

Zip fobs have snapped off So I have had to replace them with a bit of welding rod through the fastener. Better than original as they are now slightly bigger so easier to get hold of.

Toe slider screws fell out so again replace but with some thread lock. would I buy them again. No get some Vertebra etc. yet I still wear them when in a hurry etc.
