Whine after ajusting chain...

hi all, i have been reading for awhile after buying a k5 sv. and love the bike! anyways i had the first service done at 800 miles and everything was fine. at about 2200 miles i desided to ajust the chain. (i have experiance with auto repair but no motorcycle repair.) anyways i ajusted it to spec in the manual, and now when i ride i hear this slight whine i think is coming from the chain. it is lubed and the rear is alined by the marks on the swing arm. so whats the deal? it was pretty loose when i finally ajusted it, i think it was loose for awhile so maybe it's supposed to whine but i just havent heard it for so long and now i am not used to it? anyways what do you guys think? i have checked the chain and wheel bearings and they are not getting really hot or anything so i am stuck. the only other thing i changed was using a synthetic chain lube instead of the regular chain wax. thanks for any help.

Did you get someone to check the slackness when you were sitting on the bike? If not the you may have it too tight now.

The chain needs more slack than you might imagine, and I think the manual is a little mean in it's recommendations. If in doubt, more is better.

The other thing is that the swingarm marks are really only a guide, you need to check wheel alignment wit a straight edge along the tyres or use string tied to the back of the rear tyre and held taut just touching the front of the rear tyre, measure the distance from the front tyre to the string and repeat it on the other side. The measurements should be the same.

Can't add anymore than what is written above - the chain is now too damn tight & it will be a costly repair if you don't sort it soon :!: :shock:

Can anyone explain the sound. Is it like the sound of a car moving in reverse. How audible is it. It is just something that would be nice to know.
I tried to record a sound on the bike once using my MP3 player it didn't work. Anyone got any good idea for recording sounds from a bike while they are moving.

i worked it out as if you push the chain up with your finger and moves about and inch then thats ok if it dosnt move much at all then to tight and if it woves over about an inch then to slack

Soundas about right, some bikes do differ, but as above...make sure thats when someone is seated on it. Some bike manuals(mates fazer I think) do state thet this is with the rider aboard.

If i recall the Haynes quotes around 2 inches unloaded.
