Id take the opportunity to have a change for a while, iv always got the collateral of the new bike i get if i want to buy an SV again.

I dont think i could go straight back anyway, due to the amount of mods that have gone in, if it was written off and everything was lost, even if i got paid for the mods too, i couldnt look at a standard SV in my garden...

Good idea for a thread Keith! 8)

Personally I would take the opportunity to change, I love my SV and I dont think buying another one would replace it, so I would move onto something else... what to however, would be down to lots of testrides!

My SV was stolen and with the payout i got another so that answers that question :)

As much as I love it, I want something with better brakes and suspension

At the moment, next bike of choice is an Aprillia RSV-R Mille or a later "pointy" Mille the factory version

cheers

i was thinking this cos my bike is parked beneath a couple of extremely heavy pallets and would do no end of damage if they fell. probably write the beast off.

i'm thinking the same as you. i love it to bits, but i'd always be comparing the old with the new, and i'm sure i'd never be 100% satisfied.

if i could convince my insurers that my bike was valued at 8 grand i'd have a little look at an aprilla RSV R or factory.....

I don't think I'd replace with another SV. I would probably be considering selling the SV now if I thought it was worth enough to make it worth it. Since it's not I am going to keep the poor thing till she literally falls apart. In the meantime I plan to do quite a bit to her. She'll probably end up as just a trackday type toy.

i voted yes because my bike was trashed. i changed to the rr because i wanted a change and something a bit quicker. I still prefer the v-twin though  !

I have been told that rather than asking for money from your insurance you can (apparantly) ask them to replace your bike with one of the same spec! I've not had the opportunity to test this theory (thankfully!) but suppose it sounds fair.

Anyone else heard this or have I been lied to? :?

SV all the way, honey! Ridden all manner of machines over 21 years and the SV does everything I want.

Mate of mines works for Vines and does this all the time, as they are required to do this by law or something....

I'd stay with the SV but definitely take the opportunity to "upgrade" to the 1000 (naked).

Sounds pretty cool to me!! So in answer to the poll, I would take this option and then if I didn't want/like the SV I'd part ex it for something else!

My SV was trashed... and I did get another SV... but I did seriously consider going for other bikes whilst I had no bike at all... that's one of the best bits, knowing you're free to get any other bike, even if you do settle on the one you had before. My 33 bhp restriction didn't end until after the first SV got trashed though, so I wanted to have a go at a derestricted SV... if I'd been derestricted for a while I'd probably have gone for another bike.

pretty much my thinking :D

had an SV in Australia, sold it and got another one the minute I got back here. despite my checkered history with this one, I couldnt imagine being without it or what could possibly replace it other than a thousand. :D

Hey I been there... SV trashed, ultimmately replaced with a Hornet. I would've replaced it with another SV - insurance had an option for a new SV, but Mrs was having none of it. 'That bike's jinxed', she declared. End of story. If the Hornet was trashed - I dunno :-k

if my sv was trashed and the insurance paid out, i would probably only be able to afford a push bike.

Not so much it is trashed just coming to the end of the warranty so been asking about and my best trade in was against a SV1000SZ and i'm tempted with the 0% for the bike and any extras providing they are genuine only not allowed to banter over the price-------doh

Should I or shouldn't I that is the question?

I voted for the change option. I love my sv and even now I have the viffer I will be doing more miles on the sv and am looking forward to tomorrow's commute on it. If the sv was my only bike though and it got wrecked I'd go for better brakes and handling so would change

I would have to get another one. I love my V Twin, it does everything I want it to do (not a great deal, granted) The only change I would want to make would be from naked to faired - enough of the aching arms and neck already! :)

Would get another SV for sure - my idea of trying something new would be to get a pointy, as I've currently got a curvy.

There are lots of great bikes around, but I think I'd get into trouble with most of them. (loss of licence, limbs, skin, no claims bonus etc)

Whereas the SV is a good tool to learn on and get some more experience before moving onto something more powerfull.

So I think if my bike did get stacked, a spanking new black K5 would be the order of the day :D

Depends how I stood financially... Also, if I can recover anything off the old one. But I'd definately have a shop around. There's a fair chance I'd buy a cheap car and start in on some daft project, I've got a hankering for a proper 7/11 Gixxer or some other fighter job...

a friend of mine has a street fighter 7/11. Bloody lovely bike. 150 bhp at the rear wheel, renthalls, jmc swing arm and looks like hell on toast...and he's promised me a go when it's back on the road, I can't wait

Exactly... I rode a bandit 12 a while back and thought "Great engine..." but couldn't be bothered with the general cackness of the rest of the bike...

Tough call but if it happened right now I'd probably take the money and run.
The SV is a great bike and suits me fine but I could get on with the GixerZ project over the winter. If that turns out to be a stonker then I've got a result, about £2.5K payout and a bike! 8)

I would miss the old girl tho, no question.

I honestly don't know...

I've not reached the limits of my sv yet. I guess it would depend on how I trashed it...
