Has anyone heard of any V4's being made by slinging together two 650's or even two 1000's? Would this even be possible?

2000cc V4. Mmmm.

As the cylinders are offset I reckon it would be almost impossible, and the cost of doing so would be astronomical without any great benefit. If you want a V4 then Honda is the way to go.

Interesting idea, can't see it happening though.

It would be a very difficult thing to do though, even if the twin heads would fit between the frame rails, (which I doubt), you'd at least need to join two sets of crankcases together, but even then the gearbox may need to be relocated as the chassis is quite slim so the case offset may be too great even with the output shaft extended, but that would make the primary drive awkward of course, that's all before you get to the crank, many of the other bikes that have had Frankenstein motors made for them have pressed up cranks unlike the SV, so it wouldn't just be a matter of pressing a suitable pile of bits from multiple cranks, so that means a custom crank, it's beginning to get real expensive now, (actually it already was).

It'd be cheaper and easier to buy a GP bike... and you might even get an extra cylinder for free :D

Are Ducati going to produce a road going version of their V4 GP bike? Any other V4's that aren't Hondas? - Honda are just not my cup of tea... not quite sure why.

while it is true that ducati both make good bikes and are well accustomed to playing around with V engines, i would much much rather an inline 4 if it were me. ducati are way over priced if you ask me, not worth the money when you could get a gsxr1000 taht will go faster and handle better for almost half the price of some dukes.

not many manufacturers produce road modles of current gp bikes as that would basically be giving their moto GP competition a detailed look at the bike there running. they may release it after it has had a shot at the gp but not at the same time. Suzuki only released the gixxer range after a while and now they dont use it in moto GP, they use the GSVR (which you'll like as its a great big 1000 V4)

Hope that helped

Really? I thought it was FZR400 based.

And yes anything is possible, with the obvious exception of squeezing two SV heads between the frame rails of an, errr..SV frame.

It just depends how deep your pockets are.

why pay that much money for a bike thats not all its supposed to be?? dukes are always expensive but the desmo is nice. would rather an M1 though.

Excuse me while I finish choking on my toast......

A GSXR1000 that handles better than a Ducati?? (and I'm going to compare apples with apples here, ie. 749/999 family) You have got to be joking. I think you'd be hard pressed to find an article in any magazine in the world that would support that claim. Ducatis are all about corner speed and handling. Not that GSXRs are bad, just that the Dukes are better - when riding hard or on the track (bit too firm for everyday use.)

Oh and you're close with the GSVR but they're limited to 990cc. Mind you it looks like they could use the extra.

Trick....if your bike buying is all about what it says on the price tag....then a Ducati or anything a little more exotic than the machinery produced in Japan would never be your bag my friend!
All of this comes under the categories of:

Kudos

Exclusivity

Class

History

Individuality.

Not seen any pics of the new V-MAX but it's supposed to be coming next year. Full power with sports bike suspension I'm hoping.
