What is the highest mileage you know on an SV650? As original as possible? Good indication of lifespan.
I have 119,600 miles today, 100% original excepting normal wear items, maintained by dealer at recommended intervals in owners manual, no more, no less on my nekid red 99
I think rictus had more before he retired his, but not original motor

COO. Thats a lot...don't mad despatch riders ride SV's? When I was in London for a few months earlier this year , I hardly saw any SVs. One only. Plenty of CG125s and CB500 and F*zers. Must have been hiding.

usually gt550s, CB500s, cub90s.... though I do occasionally see a few couriers using SVs... very rare though, unless you class my riding as courier style which would add one more SV into that category

Didn't see that many Kwakasakis used as courier bikes...even GT550!!!Probably all are now Kaput. Well and truly tired. Not many bandits either.Saw plenty of Hondas though...even a VFR VTEC...I bet he hasn't got to the 16,000 mile service yet... :D :D :D
Plenty of Hondas used as Despatch bikes???I wonder...
Have seen 1 SV as despatch bike, most of the rest are CG125, CB500 or ER-5, although I used to regularly see a guy on the A40 on a (somewhat modified) monkey bike. Nutter.

often see them down A13/Commercial St... funniest one was a gt550 with rear panels held on with a towel
but definitely see the Honda CB/Cubs and Kwak GTs as courier bikes... :D
I commute 9 months a year on my SV, 20miles each way ± depending on the route I take, I also use my SV as company vehicle after I get to work, my milage varies greatly day to day, weekends I usually only go riding for pleasure on sunday , but sometimes for the whole weekend if I go away.
this past weekend i rode a little over 900 miles, a sunday ride is usually between 300-500 miles

Met someone(despatch rider) on an SVs with 150 or 160 miles plus on the original engine brake discs. IIRC he had lost 6TH gear though.
Cheers

Lost 6th gear after 150 miles... I'd have taken it back to the dealer
I am aware that you probably meant 150K/160K miles...

Im intrigued by the fact youre seemingly under the impression Hondas are bullet proof. While they have that reputation theyre certainly not if theyre not looked after like any bike [cue 2 of my mates that have destroyed 3 CBRs between them   ]
oh and they have a tendency for the rectifiers going the older they get. add on age problems and they are like any bike. generally better build quality to start with but not a guarantee. :D

Yes well no. Despatch bikes are chosen on different criteria than us 'normal' riders. The Honda CB500 would be my first choice and the CG125 for aroond toon. The comfort of the SV would make all day town riding rather difficult. Done 520 miles in a week and now up to 7500rpm in the running in stakes....oh yes...now a little more to play with. Still kept up witha MX-5 at 5000rpm though. Silly Mazdas, My bro has a RX-8...wankel engine...If it was a good idea then I'm sure Suzuki would build a rotary engine bike.(lets see if anyone knows their Suz history). The gears have lossened nicely and the front brake is still average. Comfort less of a worry.
Checked my Gear lever...it's still there...I'm not 100% sure how it can fall off as it looks pretty solid to me. I'll chat about it at the first service and see what they say. Suzuki seem to be rather slow in admitting probs...the TL1000s mess and the Hayabusa frame snap are two instances.

lets see if anyone knows their Suz history). Are You talking about the RE5? original with GT750 style clocks or the hideous tube that opened when the ignition was turned on?

Only because they are the only bikes I've never lost money on :) .
As the saying goes 'there is no smoke without fire' :? and generally Honda bikes seem to be just that bit more reliable and able to take more purnishment :P  . I'm not saying I treat my bikes badly.
Your mates must have bought duff ones .

Ah excellent...The RE5 was Suzukis rotary engined bike. It's odd that the Wankel has never caught on. If they were so effecient then why keep blowing up and why use so much fuel? Not that effecient then.
I do not believe that Hondas are any better in the long term than any other Jap bike. Sure, it may take longer for the paint to flake off but reliability is not a Honda trademark...The GT550 is a good point and so are the oil/air cooled suzook GSX-R engines.
