sprocket wear

Having done a minor service today, I had a look at the front sprocket. It's getting pretty hooked now. The chain has hardly needed adjusting at all and the rear sprocket is in good condition.
How bad can I let the front sprocket get before it could be dangerous? If the chain and the rear sprocket really are in good condition, will I knacker a fresh front sprocket really quickly if I just change that?
It's done just under 20k now, half of that with a scotty.
Pictures of a sprocket that is ready for replacing would be handy.

Putting a new chain on old sprockets will cause rapid chain wear,but I would assume that if your chain and rear sprocket are in good nick a new front will do no harm.It won't cost much anyway so do it before it destroys your chain.

replace in a set, even though the chain looks good, it is mated to the worn sprocket and will not mate exactly with the new sprocket

I would replace the whole lot otherwise your just get through parts real quick, 20,000 dosent sound too bad, mine has done 15000 and now needs replacing. The chain is making some horrible noises pulling away i low gears and when you lean the bike for a turn

What Randy said. You say that the chain is still good. It won't be for long if you put a new front sprocket on. You'll then have to buy a new chain anyway. But also have to replace the front sprocket again.

It's ok, I changed the set weeks ago and put a 46 rear sprocket on. :twisted:

Only one wheelie so far and that was deliberate. It has been wet, though, so I haven't tried much.
Top speed is actually unchanged. I just have to hit redline to get to it in top. Before I changed it it would pull to the same speed but couldn't keep pulling all the way to redline.

Let's see photo of front sprocket,that would help,otherwise i would replace whole set.
