Got my tank spacers through from Chewy's, and with the installation instructions were a brief method of how to remove the snorkel - basically, lift up the tank, and remove the snorkel from in front of the airbox... only, on my bike, there wasn't anything in front of the airbox.

The instructions appeared to be for a new model SV, so is the curvy model different, or is it more likely the previous owner already did this mod?

Cheers,
Matt.

The curvey model is different.

So, what do I need to do on mine?

Thanks,
Matt.

I beleive the snorkle is at the top of the airbox. I think you can cut the snorkle out of the filter, but I'm not sure as I have a pointy.

Look on Svrider.com for tricks and tips section - it's all there Mr Oaf.

Squirrel is right though. You can check if it's been done easily.

Lift the tank, look at the filter aperture. Is it a small smooth moulded hole with a tube going deep to the bottom of the filter?
If yes, it's not been done.
If No, it's done already (a roughly cut hole would indicate this) or you have an aftermarket filter (basically the same effect, but better).

EDIT > If you want to keep your filter and hack up another I think I have one, just ask.

Hey,

Yeah, I am curious to try mine. I think I asked this last month but, is there any drawbacks?

Yeah, make the hole too big and a squirrel might crawl in to hibernate.

And no messing, be careful of the edges of the filter. You need to do it right by the snorkel or you'll holethe filter element. Once you've got the centre out you can cut the whole thing out to full width.

Also, bear in mind you'll 100% need to rejet the bike'll run like it's full of spanners with standard jetting (mine cruised fine at 5000rpm with the similiar BMC Race RS filter, then slower down when the revs went any higher :) )
