View Full Version : new kawasaki ern 6
Has anyone had a test ride yet ? If so what did you think in comparison to the svs 650.
I am considering swapping as I think it will be easier riding position for me for visability etc ? but my only concern is will I find it a lot more 'windy' than the SVS 650 not that I really go over 70.
My local dealer has just got them in but he is not putting one on demo yet as beleives they will go straight out. I quite like the look of the yellow one, however I think I will wait to look at the faired version also, but this is quoted as higher seat height (I'm only 5'4'')
Cheers

Not my cup of tea either.
Saw both the faired and naked versions at the NEC and dont like the look of either one. Despite the 650cc engine it seems more similar to the smaller 'first bikes' to me, like the CB500S, GS500F etc, due to the high bars, low footpegs etc. I just don't see it as a genuine competitor to the SV.
Sat on it at the NEC, and it just didn't feel right - the seat seemed to be set at an angle so you ended up sitting right on the tank.

It felt to low for me and the NEC, felt much smaller than my SV, the wife however loved it, horses for courses I guess.

The faired version looks quite cool imo! Trouble is if I could I'd have loads of different bikes. So many good ones to choose from. If I was buying new I'd be interested in this - subject to a good test ride of course.

Mate sat on it at the NEC and said it was OK. Also sat on the new suzuki gsr 600 and said it was stupidly wide and not nice to sit on at all. He's loved the new Yamaha MT03 though - the whole riding position - said it was slim and easy to sit on comfortably, plus it looked good in the flesh. If so he'll be getting one in a few months...

Me too!! I saw it in the flesh at the NEC and still didn't like it.
BTW did anyone notice the new blue for the K6 bikes ?

How small is your mate!? My short **** girlfriend said it was the most comfortable bikes there.
As for the ER6 I think it is pug ugly, the discs were nice but that was about it.

I've not seen it but if it's more comfy than the SV then that's not a bad thing.

GSR600 was very comfy for me, and I've got shorter legs than a short legged thing (except Scoobs)
Nice seat height, nice riding position and a good engine. Should of had USD forks though...
.
saw the ER6 and wasnt interested in getting on it. Though it was very ugly, particularly the bikini faired bike. The SV doesnt have any competition from the Kwak in the looks department

Well I have not wandered around any exhibition and poked the new Kawasaki with the ugly stick nor have I sat on one. I have though seen one in black in the flesh on the road. Yes they are a bit funky looking but I actually think they are a very good bike.
The one I saw was with a pal on a Fazer 600 and they were both going pretty rapidly through some sweeping curvey stuff. No it does not offer what a mid weight V twin does...but there is probably much more to this bike than perhaps it is being given credit for. 8)

I agree. The ER6 is probably a good bike which equals or matches the SV. However, it wins the Hayabusa prize for being an awful looking motorcycle. The GSX-F was disquailified for cheating. Ruins a perfectly good motorcycle. If it had come out much earlier, I would have considered one. Still prefer the looks of the SV though.
Designers must know whats nice and what ain't.
I also agree . Saw and sat on it at the show and liked what i saw . The riding position was good and it felt comfortable , everything layed out well . I think it is not a bad looking bike at all , certainly no stunner , but to me it looks fun and funky , and i applaud Kawasaki for coming up with something a bit different . In the looks department i like how they have mixed up the colours and also the frame , shocks etc . If there is a critisicm of the mighty SV , it is that they look very monotone , particularly the silver ones , silver frame , silver bodywork , silver everything which to me looks a bit boring . The Kwak has a lot more going on and i think it is a more interesting bike to look at . From what i've heard and talked to people who have ridden it , early impressions are good . It does everything you would expect , handles well , the engine is good with plenty torque and looks to well well built and finished . Whether it is serious competition for the mighty SV remains to be seen , and lets be honest here , a little healthy competition never did anyone any harm . Who knows it might make Suzuki get their finger out and come up with a improved SV for next year , which would be good for everyone .
