View Full Version : fork corrosion
ok, just bought a new bike and there is a tiny bit of corrosion on the fronts of the fork legs. thats the fixed bottom outer fork legs.
question, is it ok just to rub them down with some wet and dry and then spray on some laquer?
has anyone else done this.
thanks
karl
Corrosion on SV fork legs is legion, but the newer models were supposed to be better. If the bike is brand new, I'd take it back and demand in the stongest (but polite) terms that's it's not fit for the purpose and that you want this covered under warranty. Do it now before winter sets in.
At the end of the day the laquer can always be rubbed down and respayed but do you really want the aggravation?

Hmm, I just bought a 25 year-old GS250 as a project for the winter. You should see the corrosion on that! :(

its a 2000 model, so no taking it back... well ahvent even picked it up yet. i collect it on saturday.
the corrosion doesnt seem to bad and is certainly a lot better than a lot of bikes i looked at.

Something about polishing um on ere somewere
I had the same problem and bit the bullet. Bought a tube of Autosol and just polished them to death. As long as you keep them clean I've not had any other problems.

I got mine powdercoated... In fact, I still have them in the garage, never got round to selling them. They're done in gloss black and looked like this :

I think I have a pair of spare fork lowers, which might be in good or bad condition, can't remember :)
