I just wondered how many people would be up for a Friday night session in Bristol as the cold is setting in I know many of you may not be keen on riding but how about drinking?

Was thinking about middle of december just before the Xmas onslaught begins..

thoughts?

I am always for a drink in Bristol, and people who know me can
confirm that I attended pub meetings in the past. However, I will be
unavailable on Friday 16 December: I am in charge of a big farewell
dinner for a retiring colleague.

I can confirm the Prof was the top attender, and there longest on every occassion

Yes, assuming there's not a clash with a few other committments I have already.

Top idea!

Count me in - since I live in Bristol, it'd be rude not to.

Will do my best, since I now have somewhere to sleep in Bristol.

Would love to join you all as Bristol's a great drinking city  however it's a bit far for a night out

What? I've travelled 250 miles for a night out more than once and Godikus (where is he?) came down from Scotland in the summer.

Yes, good point but try explaining that to my missus. If I drive to the pub she's suspicious, let alone drive 70 miles for a pint.

I hope that wasn't obtained the way most bikers end up getting lifts in helicopters.

In the past it has been the Ostrich Inn: http://www.britishpubguide.com/cgi-bin/pub.cgi?results:Bristol:372

The Ostrich is conveniently placed, about a 10 minute walk from Temple Meads.

I wont be able to make it lack of funds I am afraid...

I am about to get a massive bill for fixing my car.. it needs a new ECU £500 + labour to put it right, as it needs a new ECU

The pubs of Clifton/Cotham may be better, the OStrich is convenient and scenic come summer...but bottom line its a **** pub really, isnt it

True. But the matter of travelling from Trowbridge on public transport
is a serious one for me.

Perhaps another pub in a similar area then, i.e. between the water and temple meads. There's lots, many even nearer than the Ostrich.

So is this gonna be on Friday 2nd of December?

If so I think I should be able to make it. I might bring some friends along though, as I'll need somewhere to spend the night.

We are bikers, so we should be terrorising the locals, not the other way round.

Yep, I recommend the Coronation Tap in Clifton. Their cider is legendary...

Carsick, fortunately not although I talk to the local helimed daily. I work at an airport and managed to get a ride on a delivery flight.

Edited to sort out a drunken attempt at forum hypertext.

C'mon people, decision time! Name that pub.

The Reckless Engineer is OK but I think they have a live band on Fridays.

Its only a 10 minute walk from the station to the Waterfront, maybe the Arnolfini Bar?

Otherwise like Anna said the Knights' Templar (Wetherspoons)?

Failing a decision, I volunteer Anna to make everyone mulled wine while we kick the tyres on her bike and hold a wake for it.

Professor
28-11-05, 09:30 AM
Yes, it would be good to come to a decision.
