what do you guys think,
i have a 1980 dt100 which i am trying to get on the road, it runs and rides and i have replaced the headlight and tail light bulb, as they were blown, but i have no lights, it has a battery but it is knackerd,
i think its either the dead battery (its useless it loses charge very quickly)
as i had a neutral light and horn when the battery was new (2 years ago) but the bike wan't running,
nothing lights up when the bike is running, do any of you think that if i replace the battery i will get my lights back??
what do you think

battery wont charge that what i think the problem is, there is nothing wrong with the magneto or the stator,
but it runs without a battery, i think new battery it is

Sounds like your rectifier. This changes your AC output to DC (well nearly...) and you need DC to charge your battery! If your alternator is working and providing sparks but it isn't being smoothed to DC then you will blow all your bulbs and knacker your battery. which is what you've got.

the battery is knackered becuase of not being used, and i have charged it but it doesn't hold its charge, i dont need the batt7erty to charge i just need the lights to work when the bike is running (mainly rear and brake lights)

From memory the headlight on the DT runs stright from the magneto, and thus is an AC lamp, I think the tail light runs off the same system - but I'm not sure about that, it was a while ago  The ignition is direct too.
So, running from the battery are: clock lights, brake light, position light, (if fitted), indicators, (ditto), horn.
There is a separate regulator - from memory a 2" x 1 1/2" rounded aluminium box, with a single yellow wire) - make sure it's earthed properly. There is a single diode half wave rectifier for battery charging, but I can't remember the wiring on that.
