Hi all, I'm new to this site and am looking at buying my first big bike. I saw an SV650 about 6 months ago and fell in love with them :D so I've been saving my pennies to get one!
I almost have enough to buy one (about a 2000 plate) but I've seen a few with superficial damage to the fairings, etc and am wondering what it would take to de-fair one and change it into a streetfighter style bike  . Please forgive my ignorance but I am very new to this!!!
I'm not after power upgrades yet but would like something smart t start me off on the right foot!
Any help is greatly appreciated.
It would honestly be both cheaper and so much easier just to buy a naked in the first place. The aggravation of converting one to the other is more trouble than it's worth I suggest. It's not just a question of removing the fairings if you don't want it to look like a dog's breakfast.

I think its a lot of work to be honest...
I reckon you would be better off getting a naked bike to start with than mucking about changing a faired SVS into a streetfighter, I think that the naked SV's go for less money 2nd hand than the faired ones anyway.
Somebody will be along shortly to give you a bit more of a clue than I can though
Welcome to the site
Might be a bargain going here if you're quick:

First, crash it :)
It really depends on what you want to do. Mine will, hopefully, go that way in the future- but in the meantime I'm not giving up my lovely wind protection while it's a commuting machine :) Because I'll replace the lights and use a Veypor for intrumentation, it'll be no more expensive with an S than with an N model.
But Ns are always cheaper, so it'd be a bit daft to buy a faired one then work back. Plus, if you want to keep the stock clocks, faired ones will be no use to you.
If you want flat bars, it shouldn't be too hard to either find an N model top yoke or modify your own. But again, you'd be paying money for something you get as standard on an N model, for less.
The naked models are cheaper, then fitting double headlights, some tasteless anodised accessories should be quite easy and cheap.

I do like a well done streetfighter, but I must agree a lot of them lack any sense of restraint or taste :)
