the reason i posted these pictures was to demonstrate that you do not need 1,000's of pounds worth of kit to get great shots.

all the images above were taken with a canon ixus 40 on automatic settings. (sd300 model in the usa)

and were taken by a friend of mine who is just starting out with digital photography.

(so it was not me who ran round the lake)

the camera is a 4 megapixel tiny pocketable jobbie and costs relatively little compared to SLR's , prosumers, etc.

its about 165 quid in the uk here (http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPC-PowerShot_SD300_Digital_IXUS_40)

No 1 is to symetrical.

No 2 is too fussy.

No 3 is somehow bland, colurs are great though.

Nos 4, 5 & 6 are excellent, the tree silhouettes give a frame for the sunset beautifully.

last 2 are best - the leaves give the pics more depth and pulls you in and back out to the rest of the picture.

3 and 5 are my two faves i might have a little play with 3 to enhance some colours .

thanks for the insight my mate is well chuffed with the comments.

one thing ****ed him off though :? it was his wifes suggestion to take some shots through the trees :P

Love the crazy paving of number 2, but the best depth and contrast is in 4.

No 3 does it for me. It isn't bland at all. The colours need no enhancement - it's perfect. I like the slight ripple on the water, and the huge ball of fire contrasts well with the blackness and depth of the shadows.
