I think so, because it rusts so bad and needs to be very strong.

The frame needs to be strong, and that's aluminium - as is the subframe. On the pointy, anyway.

No it's not... Subframe is iron on the pointy. Because it rusts, and it's heavy!
I thought if the subframe was damaged it was an isurance write off?

errrrr..
okay....
so we have no idea then...
im reckon its steel... well ill try welding it any way... :D
It's definitely soft iron... and painted to match the aluminium frame.
I had to change mine last year, it's heavy, no way it's alluminium. My new one has worn away some paint, which is now rusting - again, definitely not alluminium.
His bike is a curvey and the sub frames are black. Still i am not sure though.
I think they are steel.. its heavy.. but not that heavy.. I have a nice bent one and a staight one to go on.

Not true at all :) If you damage a main frame part then it's pretty much a write-off, but subframes are no different from any other part on the bike.
On the curvys, the rear subframe is mainly hollow box-section steel of some sort. I would say mild, from the way it corrodes when damaged, and respondes when heated. It's possible some of the other parts are a different material but I'd say not. Not so sure on the front but it seems to be the same.

Curvies definately have steel subframes, frankly I'd be surprised if the pointy 650 has an aluminium subframe as the pre K6 1000 is steel - an aluminium one is a new feature for next year on the 1000 at least, don't know about the 650.
