Hi, I am a recent proud owner of a Blue 2001 SV650S :) (from reading stuff on here models like mine are nicknamed a ‘curvy’??). Anyway it is totally standard. I have always thought the SV looks a bit ½ finished without any lowers (personal view/preference/eye of the beholder and all that (don’t want to offend anyone on my first post!!! )), so I want to either get a lower fairing or just a bellypan for mine.

First step is to see what they look like with those two options. I have found lots of example pictures on here of the ‘curvy’ with full lower fairing, but not really any good ones of a ‘Curvy’ SV650S with a bellypan. The bellypan I am particularly interested in is the Powerbronze one as I have seen pics on naked SV and it looks sweeet, but want to see on an S.

If anyone has some decent pics of a ‘curvy’ S with a bellypan (or the holey grail a Curvy with a powerbronze bellypan then I’d appreciate it posted on here or emailed directly!! :) ).

Thanks in advance :)

I know what you mean about the bike looking a little unfinished, so I fitted a Skidmarx belly pan to mine, which I personally think is one of the best belly pans. Here's a couple of pictures of her:

As you say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I personally think the Powerbronze one looks a bit naff.

Hmm nice shape to it but would look 100 times better with paint on it

We all have our own opinions, I prefer non-colour matched pans as I think colour matched looks tacky. I like the black thanks.

Cool thanks :)

I see you have an undertray too, is that Skidmarx also?

Thanks for the response :)

My undertray is a Powerbronze one, I got a good deal on it at the NEC show. It's a decent fit, was fairly easy to fit (only needed to drill a few holes) and I think it looks well.

I know it's not an 's' but it has the powerbronze bellypan fitted  . To be honest i only bought it as it was the fairly cheap and i was skint  , It's easy to mount and doesn't look too bad BUT the plastics VERY flexible... and it holds water at the front . I've seen Jase22's and it looks better and is more 'sealed' so if you've got the cash get the skidmarx one instead.

Edit: I'll take a better pic later as it was a bit dark last night when i took these.

I bet you wish you still had that old nail Cloggsy?

Even if it did need painting.

The only prob with the skidmarx is how close it is to the front tyre. I might need a new one as mine has a nice hole in the side where it rubbed through when it slid down the road (it saved the engine though). Might do a small repair on it though untill i have a bit more funds.

If it was painted in yellow it would look the biz. But black is good as it never realy looks dirty.

Hi guys, thanks for all the responses :)

Jase22 - did you need to hack up the original undertray to fit the powerbronze one, or was it a direct replacement??? I don’t fancy the cutting idea as I might want to revert back at some point …

Stormspiel - I do like the powerbronze one, I like the way the exhaust comes out the bottom … I am sure a correctly drilled hole will sort out the front flooding problems :) Personally I feel the ‘ugly’ on the SV resides mostly where you can see the oil filter and starter etc, this pan seems to cover the ugly, but isn’t too ‘in your face’, which is why I took to it initially (and that it was one of the cheapest!! :D).

Cloggsy - lets face it the ‘pointy’ bikes look better fullstop!! But I didn’t have the cash for a pointy!!! :D On my initial search, I came across many pointy pics, both with bellypans and with full lowers, the full lowers that are made for the pointy’s look brill and really make the bike look sporty. However I feel the ‘curvy’ ones with full lowers, well, to me just don’t seem to look quite right (in my opinion/eyes only obviously  ).

TSM - Thanks for the Skidmarx pics, although I like the way the bellypan goes right back, I too have to agree, the nose bit does seem to stick out a bit far perhaps??

Thanks for all the input guys :)

Yeah unfortunately you need to do some chopping to get the Powerbronze undertray to fit, I think it's the same with all of them except the TCP Holland one, which is a direct replacement.

This is the Pyramid Plastics one... Not the best photo. Personalyl I think it's the only one that really suits the curvy- teh Skidarz one just seems really busy and overcomplicated to me, and doesn't have the same lines as the fairings. It's solid as a rock as well.

Ok fellas I am prepared to be derided here but can anyone explain to me please, the point and purpose of a belly pan? I have never owned a bike that had one and must admit they do not do much for me. I am though prepared to be educated on this subject. :?

1. on road bikes== makes the bike look Mean & cool fashion thing

2. the purpose is really mainly for racing bikes, those that don't have a fairing have to have a belly pan to catch any fluids that my be leaking for your bike.

keeps the crap of the engine, plus with the skidmarx bellypan it saves the gen & clutch covers if your bike takes a slide (well on mine it did).

this is just my opinion of why i fitted a bellypan, i didnt like the narrow bore of the front pipe it reminded me of a 125. now its hidden

SVs look like a bit's dropped off the bottom without one :) They do work wonders for keeping your engine cases, starter etc in better nick too- well, depends on the pan I suppose.

Plus, if they don't have enough holes in the bottom and you have an oil leak, they can cuningly store the poil until you crack open the throttle then drop it all on the road immediately in front of your back tyre.

Peter, certainly for me the bellypan it is purely a cosmetic/style preference thing. One could argue it has aerodynamic advantages and as others have mentioned slight protective qualities, but as I said, I just prefer the look.

Also as hall13uk said, it is regulation when it comes to race bikes, but that is a whole different ballgame!!

Anyway folks, tanks for all the input, but I am now more undecided than ever!! :D There doesn’t seem to be a definitive answer (but then on the topic of beauty there will always be differing opinions!).

I think basically there is no one single bellypan that does it 100% for me, so I am probably going to go with the Skidmarx recommendation as has been noted it is all about the lines/curves to match the rest of the bike. But I’d still like to se a Powerbronze one fitted to a ‘S’ before I make the final decision!!!!

So, anyone got a powerbronze on an S??

Also I noticed these on eBay, they look to be shipped from abroad, they are a really good price, has anyone any experience of these?
