Hi,
Thats a good price, do you have to pay extra to register it etc? Where did you get it from?

Don't know where Mark got his from but there's loads of them on ebay (http://search.ebay.co.uk/GY200_W0QQcatrefZC6QQcoactionZcompareQQcoentrypage ZsearchQQcopagenumZ1QQfltZ9QQfromZR10QQfsooZ2QQfso pZ3QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQga10244Z10425QQsacatZQ2d1QQsa prchiZQQsaprcloZ)

Soooo cheap!

Friend of a friend has a 125cc one that he uses as a hack - starts everytime and he loves it!

Edit - This (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8017872255&ssPageName=MERC_VI_ReBay_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT) looks like great fun and less than £500!!

yeah i got mine off cypruspounds (ebay name) Lee is good to deal with. in 2002 i bought a k4100 from him (honda c90 copy)for 350 quid crated, it ran flawless for 3 years (apart from rusting) my fault as i totally abused and never cleaned or maintained it.

so i thought lets get something a tad bigger

they are rough and ready (thats for sure) but if you know what your in for they are very cheap motoring indeed.

dont expect no rolls royce, and you will not be disapointed.

I dealt outside of ebay hence saving some money. (as i had dealt with lee before , he was ok with this) it was 30 quid tax for 200cc and 38 quid to register (quite a lot of hassle as it turned out) an error on a form caused no end of delay. type approval is either a Trials or an Enduro not a Trials/enduro. ohh and by the way these are enduro as classed by dvla.

That looks quality, and top price. I really fancy one, I think it makes sense to run a crosser/enduro or whatever you want to call them in winter.

Hope it runs well, sure it will so long as you keep up to it. Do you know which engine it uses? I assume, like other Chinese bikes, that it uses a version of a Honda engine?

My girlfriends dad is a mechanic and obtained one of these bikes (a BTS 125 version) for a friends son. The kid used it for 7000 miles and not once checked the oil or oiled the chain - in fact the only time it got a service is when the chain came off (at 7000 miles) because it was so rusty and slack and he had to get it recovered as he had no idea how to put it back on..!

I would say thats about as much abuse as any bike would take!

My belief is a copy of the honda xt 200 engine.

my brother has ran a hongdou cg125 copy for 2 years now everyday for work and general running around the town. he has had no problems except rusting rims (he never cleans his bike neither).

That's a really practical bike at a great price! Looks liek it could be some fun too!

I've already had to decant a bike to my parents garage to make room in mine so doubt I could justify another one. :(

Whats the engine based on for example Suzuki DR200.

amarko5
04-01-06, 09:39 PM
honda 200cc four stroke single
hongdou make engines from honda's drawings under licence seemingly. however their c90 copy has a four speed manual box as opposed to the 3 speed semi auto .

this one has 5 gears but you get through them pretty rapid very very low geared im not blowing the engine up just yet but 45 or 50 sounds like your thrashing it in top

amarko5
04-01-06, 09:43 PM
as already stated expect what you are paying for cheap paint cheap metal rough and ready . in no way can you compare these to yams or hondas no refinment at all

and be warned you NEED LONG LEGS 960 mm seat height makes for a very tall bike

i am 6 foot 1 and cannot get both feet flat on floor i can get both balls of me feet down but not flat.

given time i reckon the rear suspension will drop a bit (no adjustment on any suspension by the way )

brakes are not mind blowing neither but then again i have only 80 mile on it so nowts bedded in yet.

Marko..To avoid a Stewards Enquiry prompted by our suvvern bro's,you might have to use this bike when taking us up Hartside in June! You got to play fair mate and at least give them half a chance of sticking with you!

took it out again today and it does 60mph on the flat no more left

it does however cope very very nicely on top of the fells on some little trails.

i had really forgot how much fun it is to **** about on wet grass and mud on a bike, :) its gotta be 20 years since i did some trials riding and crossing.

guess i am gonna be going out more often now :D :D

I fell off twice  but it was really good fun doing so  here's some pictures of caldbeck fell near the old quarry.

it got a bit muddier by the time I had finished but with the **** all over me i didn't feel like getting the camera out, got lost up there it's amazing how easy it is to loose your bearings on top of a fell with little or no reference markers ,especially as the cloud was getting low and it was trying to snow  need some chunkier tyres though (hello Cloggsy  )

and Peter I would hazzard a guess (when i am used to the enduro , i could probs do hartside as quick if not quicker than a first timer going up there)

P.S. it's amazing how heavy 110kg is when your at 45 degrees pointed up a bank trying to lift the bike back up (+ i am still as weak as a kitten from the cold) however I HAD to get out on the bike , I was going stir crazy sulking in the house.

Skip it is Really really LOW geared (obviously for the off road stuff) i am more than happy with 60mph (i really only bought it for to and from work and a little fun occasionally) and as Caldbeck fell is only 7 miles from where i live, it takes no time to get there at 60 :P

God I am blessed with the best biking roads , and offroad all on my doorstep. would i ever move "south" you can bet your life on it that I WON'T :P :D :D :D

Not to put people off, but to offer a different perspective. A mate got something similar (a 125cc "Champ") for while he was learning. Whilst my mate's maintenance left a lot to be desired (IE he did none), it was finished by the time it had done less than 3K miles. He also found it v. pricey (for the size) to insure, due to the fact no insurers had heard of it.

The sucker also payed the best part of 2 grand for it new. :laughat:

All that said, for the right price, one of these could make for great budget greenlaning.

the hongdou brand ,along with lifan ,chituma and a few others. are quite well recognised with insurance companies nowadays (although back in 2002 when i bought the kinetic it was a different matter) try loking at some of the online companies there list of makes usually contain most of these chinese imports.

as for costing a lot to insure , i have found the contrary in fact this one and the kinetic on my policy costs no more than an admin charge for paperwork.

yes i can believe someone could wreck one of these CHEAP Imports (cheap being the opperative word) in no time should they wish to.

but my kinetic has served me well for tha last 3 years (and is still running even after being submerged in the floods we had here in january) so if this lasts as long (and i have no reason to doubt it ) then it's money well spent.

Have you got a fair amount of area where you can get off road or is it a bit on the non-legal side of off roading? Our nearest area is Eston is the Cleveland Hills and beyond that the NY moors. Theres quite a lot of enforcement going on up there with off roaders which is a shame because it had some good areas
