View Full Version : K5 or K6?

Following the destruction of my K4 I'm now looking around for a replacement. So what are the differences between a possibly cheaper K5s or a new range K6? I assume that it will be cheaper to find a K5 possibly pre-registered, but on the other hand if it's worth it maybe I should get a K6. Anyone know where I can pick up a new Black K5/6s complete with decent tyres not the original rubbish and possibly a proper exhaust?
I personally think the K6 colours are quite disgusting - however they may look better in the flesh.
Given that, I'd be looking for a cheap K5 - so long as you're not after a blue one, you should be able to drive a deal.

I've only seen a blue k6..well sort of greenblue and it was indeed vile.

Black K5's are rare as hens teeth you wont find a new one anywhere, so you'd be looking at a 2nd hand one.
K6 colour's are red, some kind of turqouise blue, and another colour that suzuki call silver, its not its a very light pale blue. None of which I like.
However, K6 SV 1000 are available in black this year with the black frame like the K6 650
I just bought a K5 in red in december. Wanted to get black but they are nowhere to be found cause of suzukis walk away for a pound deal back in the summer. Aparantly black was the first colour to sell out! The K5 and K6 are identical bikes and the K6 light blue and "Silver" colours are crap, even in the flesh. So i popped for the red K5 for £3999, tried to get the price down but he was having none of it, but he did throw in a scottoiler with fitting for free, so ok good deal i think. I am thinking that i might get a respray sometime next year, may be go for matt black.
I would defo go for a K5, pre registered it might be even cheaper!

A black SV1000s with black frame, fully faired would probably be the nicest looking "standard" SV IMO. It's too early to tell, but I'd want some assurances that the powdercoating is finished/sealed a bit better than the K5 650s. Hearing of the black paint on people's frames wearing off so soon doesn't inspire much confidence.

So a red K5 it is then.....unless anybody wants to sell?

Where are you all seeing the pix of the K6 models? I have looked at the "fishal" site & not even they have pix.
Anyone know the differences?
The bike above looks like a good deal. Obviously depends on the milage & closer inspection.

My local suzuki dealer has all the colours in stock, I've had a good look at them in the flesh and I dont like any of them
I would think that the colour options would be on the suzuki GB website by now

In the colour options they don't even have the correct colours for last year.

I've been to my local dealer and seen the new colours in the flesh. They are truly dire. Why oh WHy do they have to fix it if it aint broke. I'm really looking for a new one so I may have to snap up one of the few remaining K5 models. If anyone knows of a dealer who has some special offers I'd like to know..........3 weeks now and no bike. It's gonna be another 4 before it's sorted. Thank god it's winter.........

Chin up mate, I've been 'Bikeless of Bedale' for 2 months plus now, all because my dealers can't be arsed
My local dealer has one SK5s in red, the web site says blue as well but this ain't true. On at 3999 but might be able to push him down a bit.

The yellow K5 was lovely... They all need their fork lowers coated black as well, and ideally black rearsets, but with that tidyup work I reckon the yellow-and-black is the nicest of the pointy SVs.
I also saw the K6 colours at the dealers today and i really hate that sort of turquise colour that replaces the candy blue. The bluey silver is not that bad but still looks a bit lame.

I have to disagree Northy...
The black black black K5 has to be the best looking (with the refinements you have already mentioned,) however, the nicest 'silver framed' pointy, has to be the Silver :-dd 8-[
Not that I'm biased in any way of course :D

The silver was nice, but the black's just a bit... Blah. I like contrasts... Black with silver frame is good (I bought one after all) but all black, I'm not so impresed by.

cj ball in hales has a red sv650s in, pre-reg 05 model, customer canceled, selling at 3999 with a meta alarm system, if you are intrested, you may be able to knock him down on it

Black is the best colour for a K5...I'm a bit biased though on this score.
Yellow...nice colour for a banana.
Seems that suzook are doing 2 years free servicing on the SV range...hmmm....good time to buy I guess. Don't know if this is K5 inclusive or just K6.

It wouldn't do for us all to be the same mate, I absolutely adore the 749 Dark; matt black all over, you can't beat it

But with silver highlights... That's what makes the black so black, the contrasts.

The 749 Dark is far too sexy for a U-rated site....might need censoring.

What I love about the Dark is it's the cheapest 749 in the range, but also by far the best looking... It's got that extra look of class that's not there with yellow or red. Lovely.

1st of all hi everybody :) this is my first post, i'm 34, i only passed my test just before xmas on 2nd attempt, the 1st was a complete disaster  i locked the front brake on controlled stop and decked it  , but it never put me off even tho it hurt like hell, if anything i'm kinda glad i got it outta the way early lolo, as i think i may of been a tad over confident, and my instructor was a great teacher and quite understanding after the event
after reading up and chatting to my mates i decided on an SV650s and started looking about, i was gonna get a K6 but could not find much in the way of deals, so i looked at New K5's and soon realised of the few that are left they are all red, apparently suzuki did not realise how popular black would be and messed the numbers up. i live near Lambas in Carshalton, so tried there they had 2 red K5's and wanted £3999 i then tried Premier in West Wickham who had 1 or 2 for £4099 i think, in the end i phoned George White in Slough who had 3 red ones left and was £3699 that was about 10 days ago i think they may of even gone down another £100 by now but don't quote me so may be worth a try if they still have any and you still looking
there is no difference at all between K5 and 6 except the new colour schemes
anyway in about 12 hrs i'm picking it up :d so 1 less :) and i'm gonna be riding it quite carefully for a while i can tell you :) so if you see a red K5 in the area riding like a no0b its probably me :)

Premier want £4399 for a k5 and £4499 for a k6 according to my research, but that was staring through the window on the way from the pub to the curry house.....From past experience they dont haggle either. I've emailed george white tho 'cos that price is fantastic! THANKS! Anyone do better?

thanks for the welcome guys :) well i got it back in one piece and am very very happy with it :) had a few people admiring it and had a big grin from ear to ear all the way back. was nervous until i pulled away from showroom then it all went away and i was loving it
George White still got 3 red k5's as they pulled in another 2 from swindon to slough so you should get a good or even better deal than i did :)
K5, lowers Datatool 3 and R&G's £4496 so take the £3699 from the bike and the rest was normal rrp but i got all that for rrp of K6 so i could not justify £600 just for a wider selection of colours i werent even that keen on

No he doesn't, he has a gloss Black one, Black frame, Black wheels, Black! (Replaced the Yellow for 2006).
:D
It does sound like a tractor at standstill though!

the red and black look the same.
The darker blue seems to be going turquoise and the lighter blue seems very vague and wishy washy.
The Black is the winner again.

Ok Ok I'll tell you. I can tell your all putting everything on hold 'til you know. £2100................ WTF?
Whoa! That's taking the ****!
Personally, I like the red ones. I would be happy to trade my blue K4 for a red K5, once I've got all my bits off it of course!
£2100................ WTF?
 My settlement cheque for a '99 curvy S with 29k miles on it was £2,200. Accident was in October 2005.
This was their first offer. I was expecting £1,700 ish, so I ripped their arm off.

Send the cheque back and say you're not accepting a fraudulently low settlement. In fact get a solicitor to do this for you.

Go onto Biketrader find ads for a bikes similar milleage and condition to yours and then print them off and post them to them.
Send the cheque back saying that thats not market value for your bike and then use the adverts to back what you are saying.
skidmarx
31-01-06, 10:04 AM
Phoned them and they said that the cheque was so low because they had taken 30%off as they had agreed to let me keep the bike! I'VE NOT SEEN IT FOR 4 WEEKS! It went straight from the dealers to the salvage yard once it was deemed beyond repair! On the advice of the insurnce appointed engineer! When this happens, what do you do apart from setting them straight? DO i have to return the V5 to DVLA with a letter telling them its been scrapped? Anybody else I have to notify? Shambles........
fizzwheel
31-01-06, 10:46 AM
Nope your insurance company should notify the DVLA that the bike is a write off I think...
Thats what my dads insurance company did when the wrote his van off.

Sorted. Not too my satisfaction but life goes on. THey are going to settle for £3000 total, a right fit up, but there are so many good offers on new ones around right now, and some rather tempting 2nd hand bikes, that i'd rather cut my losses and get back on the road. I could argue for the next 2 months about the REAL value, but by then I would have missed out on the deals. AND I wanna be run in for spring.........pragmatic...
FWIW, if you EVER get involved in a NO BLAME accident, make your first call to an understanding solicitor who has the time to bat for you, and sue the buggers. THe whole episode will have cost me 2 months bikeless, and around £500-£800. Dread to think what will creep out of the woodwork when it renewal time creeps around.
'Yes sir we understand that you have your no claims bonus intact, but have you made ANY claims in the last 5 years?'
Anyway thanks for all the advice and hot tips for deals. Now I can follow them up!
WATCH OUT FOR THE CAR UP THE JACKSIE!
