Hi, I just joined the site, my mate El Saxo's been a member here for a while.
I just put a post in the 'Idle Banter' by mistake, I just moved down to near Taunton from Manchester and don't know the area very well. Was wondering if any of you are out for a ride or fancy going for a ride this weekend.
Cheers :D

Hello Stretchie. Possibly not this weekend unless the weather's nice and then possibly yes, but if no-ones out keep an eye here as we are fairly active. Being mostly southerners tho we like it warm and dry (for riding that is) 8-[ . The welsh posse seem to put up with the crappy weather but they are probably used to it.
Fizzwheel tends to sort rides down the south end, Valleyboy and Mogs and all over Wales way...where we seemed to go a lot last year...and I tend to go around the Mendips and Wye Walley and welsh borders. Apart from TeeJay the rest are lazy feckers and don't organise much...
Come March we should be out loads.

Great. Well I'm ALWAYS up for a rideout
If I'm asked and say I can't make it out for a ride that means I have somehing V important on. I would drop most anything to get a few miles in.
Not FOND of crap weather but I'll do it...
Feel free to e-mail me.

Yes, we do get use to the weather around here
Seems to me, it only rains when you lot come over here... :P
Though its been really crappy lately.. plus with the road salt down, Ive had one or two fill yer pants moments as the front of the bike was pointing one way, while the back had its own ideas.. though I think I aggrevated matters by twisting the throttle too much
Now Ive done my brake disc, all thats left to do is get it serviced and make sure theres enough rubber on it for a while.. and I shall rack up the miles again :)

Apparantly every mile you do in the wet is worth 4 dry miles. SOOOOO the more riding you do in any weather (apart from snow and ice, I definately wimp out there) only serve to make you better..
Are you buying this???

Hi and welcome
Not this weekend I am afraid, busy tomorrow and then I'm visiting my parents on Sunday for home cooked roast.
I am not keen on going out in the wet at the moment, by bike seems to be suffering really badly with a wet front spark plug at the moment and I dont wanna ride it away from my usual kind of routes, until I know I've sorted it out, I'm picking up my fenda extenda tomorrow which should sort it out once and forall, although it did with stand a spray with the hosepipe today after I dismantled it all again for the 2nd time so fingers crossed ( which means it lash down with rain on my way back from Amesbury to Yeovil tomorrow and it'll cut out again no doubt  )
Doesnt normaly stop me though, you're right riding in the wet really does improve your riding. I dont have much choice at the moment, I dont have a car thats usable as some muppet drove into the back of it last weekend so its two wheels or none or even worse PUBLIC TRANSPORT AAARRGHHHHH
Dr Rich isnt one to ride in the rain he doesnt like to get his bike dirty and he is prone to bouts of panic attacks if he goes to far from his stash of autosol  :D
I'm not that far from you, keep your eyes peeled for rideouts in the future, might drop you a line once I've sorted my bike out
take care, ride safe

Sounhds great mate I look forward to it. I always looking for a reason to get out on it..
Actually, it's my source of transport, I sold my car to buy it in July, I HAVE just picked a friends car up while he's on holiday, I have it for about 6 months but I'm still commuting on the bike. I just love it, although it's much good for 'nipping to Tesco's' to buy a crate of beer

My bike was officially rated as 'minging' this year after it didn't get cleaned from August to October

Hi Stretchie and welcome, I don't expect to out this weekend as the wevver is a bit cr*p. I've been on to Dr Rich about organising a ride out in the 'middle ground' between S Wales and Sufampton/Portsmuf as it would be good to all be able to meet up. I'd do it but don't know the roads in that area. How's about it Rich? about April time  lots of sun shine  and dry roads :?
Look out for the Poole Quay posts from about April time - it's a bike meet every Tues through the summer and there's usually a couple of us down there. Can get a bit busy on the warm summers evenings with 3- 4000 bikes.

I don't know the roads around there at all. Fizz and e.d are probably the ones for that one. Sherborne, Weymouth may I suppose. When we went down to Bridport in the summer (me, Fizz, Haxsaw and maybe Term ?) it didnt take anytime at all to get down there, I do know that much.
Been wet here overnight. If it did brighten up this weekend it may have washed the salt away :D

I'm quite happy to plan someting in my neck of the woods
We can either, repeat the route that Dr Rich, myself, Haxsaw and term did in the summer or, we can do an alternative one
Theres some lovely twisty roads out from Sherborne to Sturminster Newton, that we can then drop back up to Sailsbury on, and then maybe take in Cranborne, and come down the Zig Zag back into Shaftesbury then back towards Yeovil ish.. I do that sometimes couple of hours normally nice roads, I wouldnt wanna do the Zig Zag at the moment though, its covered in leaves and mud in the winter

Stretchie...If no riding on the cards it will at least allow you more time to settle in to your new surroundings. You can acclimatise to the the local accent, gain a taste for cider and work on your unhealthy new found attraction to animals wearing woolly coats!

It might not be a nice day, but the weather conditions are correct for a SWS rideout to wales
Well in Amesbury they are its p*ssing with rain, think I might stop for an ice cream on the way back to Yeovil just for that authentic feel :D

Might go out for a very short ride after lunch. But I surely won't
make it as far as Taunton or Wales.

It was nice here after lunch. Didnt dry up much but nice. Well, I had work to do in the garden so no ride for me. I might go out tomorrow though if it brightens up. I'll decide in the morning.

I had a fantastic couple hours went down to Minehead, then down to Lynmouth all on the A39, not sure what happened after that I THINK I carried on the A39 then picked up the A399 and then ended up on the A361 which took me to jct 27 of the M5. I got off at jct 25 and went up the A38 back home to Brent Knoll.
Great ride. The only thing I had a problem with was Porlock Hill... Hill? HILL???? Chuffin mountain more like... But there were some GREAT twisties up there when it levelled out, I definatley recommend doing it.

thats a quality piece of road, did a rideout along there last summer you should be able to find the thread relating to it somewhere in here still
My bike made approximately 8 miles in the rain this morning before it cut out, Ive been and collected my fenda extenda and I am going to fit it tomorrow

That is a quality route Stretchie. I sometimes go up Porlock hill and then on through past County Gate and then come back on the road that runs through the centre of the moor via Exford. Really nice, for riding quick or just for pootling along looking at the view

Well, All Ive done is up and down my valley for half an hour before work... needed to test new brake disc at somepoint ;)
And messed around on 1000 sheep road... which was absolutley empty today.. no cars, and far more importantly, no kamakazi sheep either
Nice view at sunset from there as well... though chances of any of you lot being around here at that time are slim! hehehe
But far more importantly, I fell in love with my bike again... after the brakes messing around and trying to throw me off, today it didnt fuss -just stopped! lol , plus as the axel needed greasing as well, theres a tad more ooomph back in it, so burnt off a subaru off a roundabout to mark my comeback ;)
Now, time to rack up the miles me thinks :D
Hello all,
im coming out of hibernation and hoping to have a short local ride if the weather holds up tomorrow to blow a few winter cobwebs out.
So hope to catch up with some of you once the better weather is here in a few weeks

You guys have got some nice roads down here.
I went do the A327 towards Langport, had a nice section on it with loads of chicanes one after another then I got onto the A303, I was looking for a pub 'The Lamb Inn' or something, been told it is a bike friendly place but didn't find it.
So got back to Taunton, back up the A38, past home and did Cheddar Gorge, that was nice then turned around at some pub 'The ploughboy' or something and came back through the same way.
Done some milage this weekend and the bike was filthy but cleaned it up a treat all shiney body and wheels (until next weekend that is  )

Its probably a pixel density thing either too low or too high. Use 'save for web' rather than 'save' if you have that available.

I went out today.. weather was crap :( Rained heavy last night, so everything was soaking....
Not to forget that it was gusty as hell as well...
vented some anger on the A465 and did a *cough* 140 >insert metric or imperial measurement here< ;) overtake :P
came to a sweeping bend when the wind cought me... I wasnt doing 140 for long at that point!
Though its been nice to actualy get on the bike and not have to go anywhere in particular... no work, no destination... just bugger off and decide left or right as you reach a roundabout or junction.
Took my mate out on the bike yesterday, and as I now have the autocom all figured out, all I could hear was him swearing and shouting 'Nnoooooooooooooooo' as I droped a gear and overtook a subaru.. who duly obliged to not just let me pass him without a fight
Yep, we have some nice roads all over.. just need nice days to take full advantage of them! hehehe

You should have gone out late Saturday afternoon, it was quite pleasant then.

And I thought I was being naughty overtaking at 90! Should probably
get myself a bigger bike for my birthday.

I'm up for a rideout - I tend to work every second Sunday though. I keep an eye on this part of the forum so if anything is planned I'll try to join in - I don't mind leading/navigating for part of the ride if it helps.

Am I dreaming, a THREE page topic?
Anyway, welcome Stretchie :)
I'm glad to say that as my wife is now thankfully on the mend, I can start looking at rideouts again
It would be good to get back over into the "hilly county" you know Gareth, the one with all the sunshine

Ahh yes, sunshine.. I remember that..... I think
Yes, when the weathers a bit better, shall have to arange another ride to that part of Wales... stop off at the cafe in Llandovery and then take on the really twisty bits!
See if we can get a few more numbers for next time... Im sure we can tempt more along! though it is a long way for some to travel!
Im lucky.. I live next to all of it ;)
hehehe, Prof, that was only in 4th gear as well
I wasnt quite mad to red line it in 5th and 6th gear in todays conditions! give me till summer though
