Just bought an Optimate III SP for my pointy SV.

It's the business.

A dawdle to fit. Two Allen bolts on the side panels, then another two Allen bolts on the front seat. Connect the short lead to the battery (very easy), feed the other end to a cable tie under the pillion seat, and that's it.

All you need to do is lift the pillion seat and connect the Optimate, then leave it to do its business.

Hey presto, a fresh battery all the time.

Brilliant!

I tucked my cable down from the battery and out just next to the rear brake oil reservoir, no need to take pillion seat off, as that trips off the alarm.

Alternatively, ride the bike!

Then you dont need to worry about charging 8)

Works for me. Never, ever charged my batteries and never had to replace any.

Depends how long you keep the bike and what sort of riding you do.Our SV is nearly six years old and still on the original battery.I use an optimate and would never be without one.Nice long weekend rides are good for charging but short daily commutes in winter take their toll.At £35 I call it a good investment.

Obviously you've never left your heated grips on overnight... :P

Deffinately a must have item as I don't need to ride all the time.
