 I've snapped the top off a bleed nipple trying to remove it from a caliper, how do I remove the rest of it out :?:
Do I have to drill it or is there another way :?:
If it has left a hole where the nipple was you might be able to take it out with a screw extractor ( i have got a set with a smallish one in it - could post it up to you if that would help )
It's got a hole right thru it. Another vote for a screw extractor (eazi-out). May want to try and open the hole up as much as possible, so you can use the biggest diameter extractor as you will be buggered if you snap the extractor.
If you can dremel a slot in the top of the nipple it may be better to get a screwdriver on it.
Soak in some WD40 will help.
If the screw extractor don't work I think it will be a case for the dremel or a drill then re tap the hole.
Best of luck.
This place does a set for a couple of quid ( about 6 with postage and packaging )

Or as i said earlier you are more than welcome to borrow a set
:D
dremel is quite fiddly ,my 2p worth-use a hacksaw to create a groove in the part ,then a plain screwdriver

It's really tight :!: It just snapped off
Good thinking though

Nah, the remaining bit is below the sides of the caliper housing - I can't get anywhere near it with a hacksaw

That'd be awesome (if you don't mind...)
I'll PM you my address ;)

So, when can we expect the thread "How do I get a broken screw extractor out of a bleed nipple"? :)
Hopefully the answer to that is Never.
These are fluted Extractors ( not the more common spiral ones ) so should be a bit tougher

Don't.
As long as it's not opened a bit with your previous attempts to remove it and thus leaking fluid, leave it alone and get one of the banjo bolts with a bleed nipple in it.
If you decide to use a taper screw extractor be very careful, the walls of the nipple are quite thin and the extractor will most likely expand the nipple making it grip harder in the caliper, before the extractor has sufficient grip on the remains of the stud to turn it.
Alternatively take it to someone who is competent with with TIG welding, get them to weld a bolt or similar to the remaining bit of the nipple, 1- there's something to hold, 2- the heat of the welding often loosens the grip of the aluminium enough to get the nipple out.

Cloggsy go with Sid's advice or you will be looking for a new caliper.
unless you were uber clumsy in the removal attempt, then it is well stuck and the ammount (length) and size (dia) of extractor you will get to fit in, will be insufficient to remove it and it more than likely will snap (then you have a bill for extractors as well  )

Concur.
Remember the brakes are there as a last resort to save your life. Any attempt to remove a busted nipple is likely to bugger up the caliper. Remember how the bleed nipple works. It seals in a tapered seat so anything that damages the threads or seat will effectively write off the caliper.
My view however is that the caliper is already a write off so save your time/energy. Get a fresh one from a breaker and replace seals.

 Ohh **** and i use them a lot  (does this mean i am a crap rider ) :!: should i just use me feet to stop all the time , and only the brakes in a dire emergency :P

come on Mark you know what I mean. Road craft, observation, anticipation are all there as your primary riding skills and are what keep you alive, Sometimes you have to accelerate and get out of the way and there are othertimes when you have to drop the anchors and prey.
We all use out brakes, some even use their back ones. But most of the time we could get away with a slightly inefficient brake. but when that beemer is simply pulling out in front of you and there is nowhere to go. You just don't need a weeping brake component.

I'ev been trying to find the topic I started when I completely destroyed a rear caliper trying to get the nipple out, but it seems to be lost  But to recap, I killed that thing stone dead :)

D'Oh #-o Snapped the other one trying to get it out now
Being a smart ****, I also tried getting the broken bits out by whacking a hex-bit into 'em... Guess what - Hex bits snapped off inside 'em too

 Tell me about it :!:
My last resort (before buying a new caliper,) is a mate of a mate has an engineering workshop - I'm gonna see if he can drill out the bits & re-tap them with some new stainless bleed nipples <fingers crossed>
