Looks fine weather and not too cold (after a cold start).
Anyone fancy it?
Saturday better than sunday for me...but could be flexible.
Not bothered where as long as not too far...maybe Wye Valley and Forest, S.Wales, or down Mendips, Wells, Somerset way?

Ideas?

Can't make it: developed a bad back pain couple of days ago and am
currently sitting at home, taking prescription painkillers and
marking exam scripts.

The forecast is indeed excellent. Shame to be incapacitated.

Aye, a few hours on the bike will cheer me up, but it needs to be in responsible company! lol.... went out last weekend while not in the best of moods relating to above subject, and ended up being rather agressive on the throttle in 4th gear on my Ninja....

Im only glad that I didnt snick it into 5th and 6th.. as i was red-lining in every gear that day!

plus the heavy crosswind put me off doing that as well!

just checked the treads on my front wheel, still got about 1.8mm left... so thats not a problem for a while either pheew!

Right, somebody better come up with a route now....
Or at least delegate someone!

I could make the morning and early afternoon but have to be back at Exeter for about 15.30hrs - if you went deep into Wales that probably wouldn't work out, although I would be glad to join Strectchie from Taunton to any meet up near Bristol or Severn Bridge or whatever.

Perhaps we should make an early start. Its about an hour to me from exeter I guess so what if we meet somewhere near me (J19 I think!! Portishead) at 10ish the hook up with VB on the other side of one or other severn bridges around 10.30. The possibly we could do the monmouth side of things for a couple of hours and then Normski could head back over new bridge and ohers could follow VB

.......or something along those lines. What do you reckon VB? Is getting to me for 10ish too early for you SW guys?

Ok. Let's meet at Gordano Services M5 at 10am. I'm not making life easy for me, just central for Taunton/Swindon.

Valleyboy, you tell us if you want to meet at either:
that big layby just before Chepstow after old Severn Bridge;
MacDonalds at the M4 Newport/A449 junction;
Or Magor Services M4

choose the best one for a Brecon route and you can work out what time we will arrive (say leave 10.10 and be at one or other of those about 10.30 I reckon)

My mobile is 07834 453799. Anyone late let me know and we can tell you where we are stopping for a catch up (which is better than hanging around IMO).

A deal?

valleyboy
20-01-06, 06:22 PM
Actualy, anywhere along the M4 is probably good.... Magor services sound good to me.... though be warned, i always run late

Anonymous
20-01-06, 06:32 PM
Ok, aim for Magor for about 10.30 then, might suit Baldydad and Baldyson to meet there rather than Gordano but up to you guys.

So let's aim to leave Gordano as soon after 10 as pos and then meet at Magor at 10.30.

Normski if you do make it I reckon as long as you left us by 1.30 you'd get back in a couple of hours from South Wales but its a lot of motorway for a short ride, I guess.

valleyboy
20-01-06, 06:35 PM
I'll do my best to be at Magor before 10.30 am.... can discuss further route options then and there.. I'll have my litle map book of Wales... so could at least run you lot through some of it.

Baldyman
20-01-06, 07:06 PM
We'll meet you all at Magor for 1030

I could be there early too as I could well have a flat battery, so if it does start I won't be able to risk switching it off and going back in for a cup of tea  and if it doesnt I'll need the time to start it off the car....

Ah, that will be the 'West End Cafe' iirc.

About 4 years ago 12 of us stayed in the big house next door to the cafe forCchristmas.

Had no idea that the quiet little cafe next door was a biker's caff until Boxing day morning when they all rolled in - result!

I went out for a blast today as well.... if it wasnt so bloody cold, I could have sworn it was summer with the sun looking so good 8)

I had one of those rides.. went along part of the route where Mr Subaru nearly rammed us off the road yesterday.... now generaly, I hate dual carriageway, but add in a few roundabouts to negotiate at 80mph.. and they become a bit more interesting :P Think if I was on my old SV, i would have scraped the pegs.. then blasted up the A470 and off at 1000 sheep road.. which was absolutley dry, and no sheep about  so i wasnt standing still for long around there....

one hell of a way to get rid of some mild depression :o

Anyone want to organise a ride somewhere around their way?? Ive diceded this year Im going to get out of South Wales a hell of a lot more! (actualy, move out of it if I get my way! )
Distance is no object.

Could arange a large distance rideout, compromising bits of the usual route we do through South Wales... and incorporate the best bits of my route.... i.e. do Monmouth etc from Aust, then get onto the A40, and stick to it until we get to Llandovery..... But we can leave that one for a one off...

Though in the meantime, as long as I get my servicing and tyres done on the bike shortly.. I'll gladly do the route with followers.... though I dont think I will be able to cope with going to Magor and back all the time!

Though, if more numbers wish to come along, I will need to be a bit more organised about it

Baldyman, think you can get a few anti-tank rockets to take out any horse boxes infront of us for next time??

Quite happy to do a route round my neck of the woods.

We can do the route I took the others round last year, Bridgewater, Crewkerne, Bridport, Weymouth, Sherborne back to Yeovil.

Theres the Rideout route I did that took in Minehead, Lymouth, the down towards exter and back up through Chard and Crewkerne back to Yeovil again

Or I can go more towards Sailsbury, I think a good route would be from Yeovil to Sherborne, then to Sturminster Newton, to Stourpaine, and then back up to Shaftesbury, then go towards Tollard Royal and East Melbury, up the "Zig Zag" and then onto Sailsbury, then back down the A30 to Shaftesbury, East Stour, Henstridge, Milborne Port and then back to Yeovil again.

If anybody wants to to any of these then we can set a date and I'm quite happy to lead and show you guys round

Chaps, best play it down. When that family came round the bend and saw what Stretchie was up to with the furry thing wedged in the fence there was no question that there would be trouble.

'Why's that man fighting with that sheep, Daddy?'....you get the picture.

Truth of course is the sheep had run on the road and while chasing it Stretchie's strides had come down just before he caught it. Nasty trip at the last minute tho....ouch  , but I guess a soft landing.

Thing is, although completely innocent the Welsh police have been instructed to improve the image of Wales by clamping down on sex tourism...so I guess he could be made an example of.
