I wonder what any of you would consider your biggest regret in connection with your biking? Wrong machine selection at some point? Add on bits that failed to live up to what you had hoped? Or taken on a job that just mushroomed on you?
Or perhaps some incident that happened when you were riding a bike?
There must be hundreds of options............ :-k

Not taking stock of my situation and slowing down after i first got busted for speeding. 5 other speeding offences built up and resulted in my being banned from driving. I got license back after 6 weeks were up.. but did i listen? Nope.
Now im banned for 3 years.
Lesson learned... (way too late) Absolutely.
For the "thrill" of going fast, i now cant drive/ride for a long while.. so what did i achieve... nothing.
THAT, is my biggest regret - not listening to advice, not listening to my own conscience, and just riding too damned fast. Save it for the race track.
Um... falling off?

My biggest regret without doubt was disengaging my brain when my best mate showed me how to clean my chain after I passed my test. He always did it with the engine running and bike in gear.
After losing the top of my thumb, from just below the nail, I sort of miss being able to do those tricky little jobs like putting the retaining clip and caliper spring screws on when working on my bike - or trying to hold a bolt when threading a screw through a hole - it makes the job 20 times longer and frustrating. But as injuries go I'm pretty lucky, and I never really used the nail much anyway!
When I was 16 (1986) I had a moped.
When I was 17 (1987) I sold the moped and bought a car.
I thought to myself at the time "I'll get another bike and do my test next year"
The next year was 2005

Not keeping up with servicing on my 1st bike and completely breaking the engine

Starting Project TZR!
£2000 later and I've got nothing to show for it. The Plan was to strip, tune and rebuild my TZR125 but I ran out of money and was depressed without a bike as I only got to the end of strip stage. So I got a lone and a CBR400.
That was 5 years ago, and it hasn't moved from the boxes in my parents house. When I graduate I will finish it, the best type of jig-saw puzzle around. So thinking about it, no it ain't a regret!
nearly feckin killing myself on a car, 2 trees and a lampost and spending 2 months in hopsital

Happened back end of last year. Didnt mention it as i didnt want a load of hassle and "mightier than thou" issues.
Nothing to talk about really, nothing to be proud of, whats done is done.

Well good for you Joe, that's more like it - hope the three years pass quickly (if you see what I mean ;))

I as going to say buying the Orrible Yam, but thinking about it it was a crash course in motorcycle mechanics, and gave me the confidence to get into serious meddling with bikes. Also, if I'd got a real 125 I'd probably not have bought the SV, it was more out of frustration with the Yam than anything else that I got another bike.
Other than that, it's been good. I could do with having crashed a couple less times but none were serious, and they gave the rest of teh Ecosse Posse something to talk about over their cakes :)

I'd say I have regrets, but it's wierd, I do regret my scooter, not trying to persuade my dad to let me have an RS50, I would have learned a lot more about bikes. Some might say I should regret buying my RS125, as it seized within about a month, but it enabled me to get my SV, so that has a positive outcome. I regret taking the **** on the Cat and Fiddle which could have cost me my spine (or my life, and going home to a dad who only heard I crashed my bike on the fiddle and thought I was dead for a minute is not a nice experience, that very nearly made me sell it), ending up with a bent front wheel among other things. I would say I regret not sorting my brakes as soon as they started binding and not put it off till the following monday when I could get brake fluid for free, but then, even though I highsided, snapped both rearsets, ruined all the fairings, scratched my new wrp exhaust, snapped a bar end and all the indis it allowed me to get my car, which is very useful. It's nearly repaired now, in need of the thigns in my sig, and it's cost me £25 so far, not bad at all. My biggest regret by far is ****ing my dad about when it comes to finances, as I do tend to be erratic in my decisions, and I currently owe him about £1800. So dad, I'm sorry about that. Other than that no, I have a lot to be thankful for I guess. Good thread

My ONLY regret was leaving a certain girl  .. (OK so I'm a soft ****)
BUT saying that if I didn't leave her I would have never gone on holiday to Thailand and got on a bike for the first time... Bikes are now my first love, in a BIG way.. But I still think of her and we still talk..
Fair trade??? I honestly don't know, but she's always in my mind
But so is my bike

Selling my Yamaha YZF 750
Forgetting to send off my test certificate in 1990 which meant that i had to do the test again (with all the associated cost) in 2003.
Still got the 1990 cert I carry it with me in my wallet as I have done for 16 years now

Ah, wait, i know the answer now. It's deciding to paint my own bike. I'm sure it'll feel great when it's done, but just now I want to kill you all for not telling me not to do it.
My only regret with regard to biking is not getting into it sooner, I can remember in my early teenage years being desperate for a bike and my old man simply saying "if you buy a bike you are out of here" (our house) due to the fact he lost so many mate's to bike accidents when he was young.

My folks said the same thing when i was living with them - " if you want to kill yourself , i will buy you a shotgun ".
Took me till i was 31 to be in the position to get my licence ( and like many people on here ) i wish i had done ot years before.
Still , ive got one now

This is my biggest one to.
Also taking my 125 out one morning after a really really hard frost, purely because I was running late and couldnt be bothered to defrost the car, even though I rode really slowly I still got caught out on a patch of black ice and binned it  only broke the gear lever though but taught my a valuable lesson.
Biggest regret was being unable to ride for 80% of the summer last year. This was due to the fact that my sk3 was constantly in and out of the workshop with the big ends being fixed.

I should regret a misspent youth(and early twenties)
I spent too long sowing wild oats in far flung places and did'nt persue a proper education when I should have done.I therefore did'nt persue a proper career either, resulting in a somewhat haphazard job history until I was nearly thirty. Thus I am now not as well off as I should have been.
Truth is I don't really regret it though.I know so many people who took the "proper "route and most have turned into Orwellian clones with no ability to think outside the envelope.I'm glad I'm not like that.

Possibly, as others have said, not doing it sooner.
Other than that none really. Every mistake has been a lesson and I have learned from it, so I don't really regret any of them.
There was the Falco.... No, whilst it was annoying that it wouldn't start some mornings, and although I had tried to run before I could walk, it did teach me to respect the throttle, and when I'd had enough I moved on to the GSXR, which was an awsome affair
Offs ? Well there's only been 2, the first I could do nothing about, and the 2nd was a wake up call because I was getting over confident, so no....
.
Screw-ups - yes.
Regrets - nah. I'd only regret things if Ihadn't learned from them - but it did, so I don't.
If you get what I mean.

hmm i don't think i have any biking regrets,
i did my bike test @ 19 & got my k4 sv @ 21.
i did break my wrist @17 on brand new moped which had 17 miles on it but i do not regret it, because i was so **** sure before that. It made me relaise that i do need the correct biking gear, gloves, trosers etc.
Riding down past the smoke only to find some damp leaves that offered no grip...
