I had a very, very, near miss this evening. I came home via the A40, and turned off at the A312. I came off of a roundabout into a main road (Yeading Lane) only to find a car coming out of a juntion opposite right in front of me.
Normally I would have seen this car, but the street lights were out and the idiot had no lights on.... Not even side lights. By the time I saw it (in the beam of my headlamp) it was on top of me. I wasn't going fast as it's generally busy, the lighting was crap, and there is a bus lane there too, so you have to be a it careful.
I made contact with the car as it "swung" through a very wide arc, physically pushing me into the bus lane, but the driver seemed completely unaware of my presence. I pulled up next to it at a set of lights and banged on the window. The young guy gave his phone to his mate (hence the wide arc and not seeing me) and wound down his window. I politely informed him with a number of 4 letter words that he had almost knocked me off and that he had no lights on.
He told me to pxxx off and mind my own business.
This is not the first time I have noticed people driving without lights recently.. WTF do they teach these morons, how do they get a licence in the first place ???
End of rant.
Oh, does anybody want a right hand mirror for a Corsa ??

TBH I wouldn't bother reporting that incident to the Police. The ********s will then know who has their wing mirror.
Glad you're OK Jelmeister.

don't think he needs theregistration, he's got his mirror  class Jelster
I hope that Mrs SY3 doesn't tune in tonight. She doesn't have a prob with me on the bike any more, it's the other morons out there that she doesn't like.
You show remarkable composure, J
Glad you managed to miss it Steve (well in a major way that is), have you got his number? Maybe it's time we all carried a small can of easily accessible Ralgex in our pockets? These people need seriously talking to (and here I use the word talking as a metaphor for beating the living crapout of of  ).
The plus side? You're alive and unhurt  .

Nah, I already had his mirror in my left hand, and I needed my right hand for the throttle
I may seem calm now, but I was absolutely livid at the time. I wanted to pull the little Chav through the window. How can you not realise that you've got no lights on ??? You can't see your dash for starters, and you can't see where you're going....
I don't know what else to say really. And what's the point of reporting it ? My word against his, after the event.... And I bet I get a ticket for being in the bus lane

A small squeezy bottle of milk....squirt it through the window, or into the fresh air ducts.
Takes about three days for it to stink the car up and about three years to clean the car out (if ever!).

Glad your ok mate,
If it's something your not the only one, going down the A509 this morning had a black HGV in a spot where there are no street lamps and believe it or not he had no lights on.
Mind you, there seems to be a crave of the ultra bright blue bulbs going on where I live, they seem to make night into day and blind the hell out of me.
Lesser of two evils, they either have no lights or so damm bright lights! :?
Cheers
Rich
Glad to hear you are ok and rant away!! I've also seen a lot of cars and bikes without lights on and its just unbelievable.
Last night seems to be the night for very very close near misses. I was stationary last night due to solid traffic and a scooter comes flying around the corner behind me and then suddenly realises there is stationary traffic and at the last minute dives around me practically hitting the car to my left. Two things that amazed me about this. When stationary I tend to keep an eye on my mirrors since I've been rear ended recently. The scooter didn't have any lights on, I only noticed it as something cut between the lights of the car behind. The second thing was that the dive to the left was so sharp that her leg came flying out from the scooter and I got a very clear look at the stiletto's she was wearing

Im going out on a limb here, but a majority of the people that i see (Now more often) without thier lights on are Women!!! On my car, the lights are always on...you cant turn them off....there isnt even a switch...well other than the ignition...Oh the joys of Volvo Tecnology
Lucky about the near escape Jellyman. Another mirror to add to the collection.

Sadly this lights issue seems to be more and more common.
In my area they all like to drive with just the side lights on. When i politely asked one of them why it was they told me that the street lights were bright enough to light the road and the only reason they put the lights on at all was to see their dashboard display.
Not for other motorists to be aware of them, oh no, just that old "i'm alright jack" attitude of looking after one self.
Pathtic innit.
Glad you didnt come off any worse jelster.

Some people should be taken outside and shot repeatedly until they learn some sense.
Well if it was a Chav in a Corsa I guess had the lights been on then he would have had the fogs on to blind you anyway. Sounds like one to avoid - just hope he checks his mirrors before he changes lane - oh, he can't hnow can he

Sadly the powers that be turn a blind eye to it around here. the unofficial comment being that "we would have to stop nearly every car if that was the case"
My attitude is "yes but thats your job, do it for one day and hopefully the word will spread that its an unacceptable practice that the cops will pull you for!" and the lazy gits will put them on properly.
If they keep turning a blind eye its as good as acceptance imo
