View Full Version : BIKAGEBOY DOWN - but not out :)
had my first little "off" this morning.
filtered to the front que of the traffic at a junction, silly woman who is now behind me decides she doesnt like being overtaken.
as soon as the lights go amber, she just goes as if im not there, knocking me off and drives round me continuing on her way.
DAMAGE. scratched sump cover, damaged RnG crash bung, bent gear lever, scratched mirror, scratched indicator ( i got a spare one here) and scrathed tail fairing.
most of the scratches will polish out so im not really bothered about that. the gear lever will bend back and mabe i can get a new bung at the ally pally show on sunday.
after im examining the damage, a woman comes up to me and gives me her reg details - but didnt see what happened.
rang police, gotta go down and fill out a form tomorrow.
i have a nice bit of her blue paint from her car on my blueflame exhaust too
jsut wondering like, what happens now ? im not going to claim on her insurance, cos its not going to cost me alot to put right.
i want to goto the police for the principle of the thing - she should have at least stopped rather than leaving me laying in the road.
what happens now with the police ? what will they do ? should i let my insurance comapny know ? i recon they will use it as an excuse to hike up my premium next year.

Sorry to hear about this.
If she drove away after knocking you off, I think the police take a dim view of that.
I think your insurance company will only want to know if you are making a claim. Might worth a call to them and see what they say.

Sorry to hear this mate.
However DEFINITELY notify the police and your insurance company.Just in case b+tch gets home and craps herself about having to tell hubby about the marks on the front of her car. I guarantee you she will be putting you as the one at fault. Cover your a*se my friend.
i think driving away from the scene of an accident is one of the worst offences you can commit.. the law has it as a max penalty of:
6 months imprisonment and/or fine up to £5,000
Endorsement with 5-10 penalty points
Discretionary disqualification
also she would be liable for failing to report an accident which carries similar penalties, and more than likely "driving without due care and attention" but possibly "dangerous driving" which is far more serious
get it reported!

If she is entirely at fault as you have described, then you're claiming off her insurance and also any damage to her car is her problem.
Your own claim status would not be affected. Get your bike through them. If that scratch on the sump turns into a crack....well doesn't bear chancing your luck really.
I would claim on her insurance as i do not see why you should lose out if it all happened as u say. The other thing is the c*nt drove off and never gave any thought at all as to what might have happened to you! There is no way i would let anyone get away with driving off without stopping ar scene of an accident so getting the police involved is the right thing. This sort of thing really winds me up

Mrs Professor once had a car accident which was not her fault. The
other driver accepted responsibility at the scene of the accident,
both insurance companies were informed, a week later the other
insurance company inspected Mrs Professor's car and gave her a
cheque, and this did not influence Mrs Professor's insurance
premiums in subsequent years. However, in that particular case the
accident was witnessed by two policemen and this might have made all
the difference.

PS. No-fault accidents sometimes have a silver lining. In the case
of Mrs Professor's car the silver lining was the fact that her car
was a very old Nova on its last breath which we were trying to sell.
The accident solved the problem of selling: we got a cheque for the
full value of the car (£450) and were told we could keep the car. So
Mrs Professor continued driving this car for a few more months even
though the rear end looked most unusual (the boot became very
small, in the form of a concertina).
So if the offending driver's insurance company accepts
responsibility something good may come out of your accident.
I can only echo what has been said above BB.
Report it to the Police
Tell your insurance.
They should not have left the scene of the accident whoever waqs at fault.

How long was it before she came back? If she only went to turn round its probably just the shock from hitting you and she panicked.
If your 100% sure it was her fault got to the insurance and get your bike fixed up like new. Why should you suffer?
Are your leathers OK? and are you really sure they are? If your helmet hit anything it need replacing.... (on her insurance I might add)
That's disgraceful behaviour! Filtering is so dangerous!
Glad you are ok. I would report it to the police, get a cover for the damage, and ring your insurance company ASAP.

Bikeage, I do believe a certain Mervin, oft of this site, is an Officer of said law in darkest Romford.
A "word" may be in order
Glad to hear you are ok.
Hang on, she didn't come back did she?
Personally I would definitely inform the police but wouldn't bother with the insurance company.
I had a no fault claim with my car (woman hit it when it was stationary and I was 17 miles away, but she did leave her details) and subsequently, that no fault claim and 3 points increased my premium £552.
Now people say 3 points make no difference to insurance quotes these days and people also say no fault claims are also not supposed to affect quotes.
But my premium went up £552 so I can only assume these things do make a difference.

If she drove off without checking on you, than report her to the Old Bill, it needs to be done mate.

I say inform insurer and police. Demand replacements for everything damanged, then sell all the damaged bits you repair on ebay. Hopefully you'll make some money out of it, even if your insurance goes up a little.
Oh, and get the bitch the criminal record she deserves

Nah, keep it to yourself, no point in causing trouble.
Just kidding, get onto the police asap. Anyone know about the details of the uninsured and untraced drivers place? I've got a bookmark at home for it but not here...
havent readall the replies...but, if you got the number plate and there is her paint on your exhaust, dont rub it off, ask the police to take some of the paint as evidence, they can then get the car with that reg, match the paint and hey presto you have yourself a prosecution.
they used this in my mums case when a van hit the car and parked up the road withoutinforming us...many moons ago so it should be easier for them these days...
that is unless you get one of the bike hatin cops who will probably say yeah ok and then nopthing will ever come of it (the few copper spoil it for the many imo)

Ditto to what everyone else has said, report her, she could kill someone next time.

Shop her today. Don't take the paint off the can, if she denies it then the police may want to match the paint samples. Failing to stop is serious, esp if there's someone left lying in the road. You could have been badly hurt for all she knew or cared.

Some years ago, I went into the back of a Jag (in a little brown mini I had at the time) - totally my fault. I went through my insurance company so they did all the chasing etc and then I paid them back at the end of it (the damage was minimal, as were the costs) and I don't seem to remember my premium going up by a lot.
Now, even if it was decided that you couldn't claim from her (can't see why that would happen but...), you could just pay the insurance company back. Having said that, I'm not sure if they'd still do such a thing.
If you did sort it yourself, unless you told them, surely you'd be guity of withholding information from them and then when you really did need to claim, if they found out, they could refuse to pay anything.
There are at least a couple of people on the board who are in the insurance industry in a professional capacity (tho not seen anything from LynW for some time - a few of her posts showed she knows about the insurance industry), so they may well pipe up.
Glad you're ok tho. It does amaze me how some people behave.
Rgds
All i can say is...how on earth did you not beat her form the lights in the 1st place..you girl ;)
Ditto to what has already been said.
Report it to police to cover your **** and because she committed a traffic offence. You'll be given a self reporting collision accident report to fill out.
Tell your insurance company.
Get a couple of quotes for the damage.
Go see your G.P. as you may have picked up an injury you dont about.
And most important - keep hold of any evidence you may have. If you were given the registration of the 3rd party then keep it as it will count as an original note in any prosecution / claim. Take some photos of the damage. Keep hold of the paint on your can.
Hope you are ok.

hi matey
I had a similar thing happen to me back in October. Whilst i was travelling along the A1 in Bedfordshire some knobber just pulled out on me and i went down like a sack of.... Needless to say the lowlife never stopped and due to the fact that everyone else was busy avoiding me as i rolled down the road, nobody got a registration. Firstly report this incident as everyone else has said, why should people get away with this. You could have been killed! Secondly there is a government setup insurance fund called Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) that deal with this kind of thing. Report it to your insurance company although from experience it is a long drawn out process and many solicitors don't want to touch it. My insurance company got me a quality solicitor and if you want the details then drop me a line and i'll pass them on. Glad you're ok and i guess that's the main thing, but make 'em pay!!!

the paint brushed off my can - so no chance of seeing that again :(
i keyed in the reg number onto my phone, they told me to keep the file incase it is used in court.

What has been said and----You need to inform your insurance but tell them you are not claiming against your policy. You should ultimately claim from the other driver's insurance if you can. This should have minimal or no effect on your renewal premium. The Police report will be crucial to this.

Good. Pin the bitch with the blame - might stop her and make her think before doing it again.
People who edge forward on lights really pee me off, it's almost as though they think you are going to hold them up. I don't mind if they do it for sport (eg the guy in the 3000GT the other day - I just did enough to edge in front of him - I guess about 6 second 0-60) I hate the ones who would rather run over your toes than give you an inch

An interesting tip I was told by the IAM lot, when you filter to the front of the lights, do one of two things;
either stay between the adjacent vehicles
or
Get your self well and truly in front of the nearest vehicle (ie position yourself in their immediate path, not off to the side)
It means they will miss you completely as you are beside them, or, shunt you in the ****. Reduces the chances of you being hurt (not your bike unfortunately) and they lose the excuse that they didnt see you.

Good advice and what i always try and do. I also have the coutrsey to look behind me if i'm between the cars at the front, and if there is a big queue of filtering bikes then i'll move out and to the side enough for the others to come one thru too.
I hate being stuck behind the biker who wont do the same for me tho :(

thats the problem, i was blocking her - hence her pranging me.
i would have been best stuck between the two veichles mabe, but as the road goes round to the right - leaves it a bit tight getting round there.
