After some fool drove into the back of my Golf, 95% certain it s write off
If so I'll need to get another car, Now me being sensible I am thinking I should spend £500 and get a little diesel 3 door run about. I dont use the car much so I dont do alot of miles. Milleage on the car isnt really a problem to me, My brother is a mechanic so I can get an expert opinion on them
The idea of going from a 20 16v MKIII GTI to something like a 106 or something in that range is rapidly loosing its appeal
However a search of Autotrader reveals that for another £500 ( £1000 ) total would give me a few more options specifically these
Option 1 - From the photos this car looks very tidy, however I suspect its had a respray, Not sure if this car came originally in Dragon Green ? I thought this was a later colour.
1992 VOLKSWAGEN SCIROCCO GT II 3dr Coupe,
95,000 miles, 1.8 8v, Dragon Green. 15" TSW Alloy wheels, SPAX suspension, Webber Carburetor. Tax and MOT till April. Immaculate condition. £995
Option 2, doesnt look as tidy and I reckon for this money the milleage would be high
1996 HONDA ACCORD 2.2 ES COUPE MANUAL VERY HIGH SPEC'D CAR INCLUDING LEATHER TAKEN IN P/X PRICED TO CLEAR,
ABS, Air conditioning, Alloy wheels, Central locking, Driver airbag, Electric mirrors, Electric windows, Leather seats, Power assisted steering. £999
Option 3 - Looks really tidy from the photos
1990 AUDI 2.0E COUPE,
H reg. 147000 miles, Ice Blue Metallic. 16 alloy wheels. Tax and tested. Clean inside and out.. £1,000. ono
I've always had a soft spot for the Scirroco and the Audi, I've heard befoere that parts for the Scirrocco can be difficult to get hold of though
I reckon I dont wanna spend more than a grand tops as I want to replace the SV with something else to
Thoughts opinions or Ridicule welcome

I'd probably be tempted by the scirocco. Good cars; if a little thirsty. 95k on a 14 year old car is decent mileage. If the bodywork is ok it should be a goer.
But, hey. Its your money.

Get the Honda, at least you know it'll always start, and not breakdown. With the VDub it is a sporty car and these kind of cars generally get screwed, no-one buys a car that looks like that for carrying the shopping do they.
Honda all the way :D
If you are not doing the miles then I think you are right to steer clear of diesels. Whilst (in theory) there is less to go wrong with a diesel, when they do go wrong it can be expensive to fix.
3 potentially good cars you have chosen. Having looked at the ads, the Audi definatley gets my vote - looks v.nice.
Engines tend to be bomb proof as well so long as they have been serviced. Would recommend a cambelt change for piece of mind if not done recently,
Anyway - the Honda looks like it has already been rear ended
The Scirocco will kill your back, not comfortable over a longer distance. Audi or Honda for me.

Hadnt thought about it like that, If I do use a car its normally because I am doing a long motorway trip or something like that.
At the moment I think the Audi is top of list
Scirocco!
Got a soft spot for them. Used to have a Scirocco Storm years ago.

Nah..it's basically a Golf anyways  I used to use these guys for my Golf GTi Mk1:

The advantage of the VW / Audi option is cheap self servicing parts :D

With the VDub i'd be worried about reliability. Ok your bros a mechanic (lucky git) but you still have to hunt about for the right parts from breakers or whatever....and pay for them.
I'd be tempted to go for something like a Corsa 1.2i or something nippy like that.
That way the local chavs will have a bit of respect for it
Or they may nick it as soon as they see it.
Of your choices tho i'd go with the honda, just cos they are reliable and they normaly have far more electonic gadgets in em to play with.

To be honest it could have been any ones, we don't tend to stick to our own cars in my family we take what ever we find the keys to first or is easiest to get out, there's usually a choice of half a dozen if we're all at home.

My tuppence----
I owned two Roccos,a GTI and a GTX,and they were both good cars. The one you are looking at is the hairdresser's model with the asthmatic engine.
I've got an Audi coupe now,but it's the V6 one and the one you are looking at is either a 4 or 5 cylinder one.The 4 is underpowered but the 5 cylinder engine is a peach.I used to have the old shape coupe with that engine and TBH it was quicker than the V6.
Don't know ought about the H*nda.

The Audi is the 2.0e, 4 pot 115bhp as far as I can tell, yep I know it'll be slow, but I got a bike if I wanna go fast
I would love a 5 pot or a V6 but all the ones I have seen are out of my price range.
I'm selling my 1.5 diesel Clio if that helps
I paid £800 for a 1988 BMW E30 325i Touring with 155,000 miles and a FULL BMW service history - it goes like stink (170hp) - get loads of stuff in the back and it looks cool too (IMHO) - I looked for ages when I first got the bike and for under a grand E30s are the way to go! 8)

I know of a couple of them for sale with good histories for similar money...

Not keen on the look of the touring. Whats the insurance and running costs like, have you had many problems with it ?

I also used to own a 5 cylinder Audi Coupe and have to say it was a superb motor.
There ws this once when I went over to Germany in it to visit the wife of an American Army chap. He was away on manouvres in Italy whilst I........

Im 28 with max NCD and its £230 fully comp! Does an average 25mpg (not great but ooooh the noise! lol) and they are pretty bullet proof if you get a looked after one... 2 door saloons are the next most saught after...
Mine needed two lower ball joints for the MOT and thats it...
Oh and dont forget all of this action that you can have...!

Going over to Germany in an Audi?!
My two penneth worth:
I always liked Siroccos when I was a kid.
I think the practicality would (or lack of) would start to annoy you after a while. Is that webber factory fit or has it been meddled with ?
Modded cars make me suspicious, what else has been done and to what degree of proficiency ?
The Audi looks very nice but its done 147Kand its the oldest car, the engines may be bomb proof but milage also takes its toll on steering racks, shocks, springs, linkages etc.
How many miles has the Honda done ?
Its the newest car and Honda build quality is top notch.
With any car this age/milage get it checked by someone who knows what their doing.
Hope this helps :)

I dont think its a factory fit on the Scirrocco, also I am convinced its had a respray, The Dragon Green colour wasnt availabe until 1994 I think and thats a 92 car, so I was a bit suspicous of that to start with. TBH if its all been done properly it shouldnt be a problem. Not particularly bothered about practicality, I dont do a huge amount of car miles, I just wanted something I could do a bit of shopping in and run about in for those times where a bike isnt really practical.
I dont know the milleage of the Honda but I suspect its high, my brother used to work for a Honda dealer so I am going to have a chat with him about the Honda, he works for Toyota garage, but part of the same group is the Local Audi / VW dealer so I can get him to find out more about the Scirrocco or Audi.
I havent had the cheque for my car yet so I am just waiting on that to be sorted at the mo

I used to have a 106. It certainly feels slow after bigger/more powerful cars and you can forget about overtaking, but it handles really well and is fun. Approach it in the right frame of mind and you'll have a great laugh. I'm in the same position myself now I need a car for work (moving 2 servers on the back of a bike could be entertaining). The way I'm looking at it is I'm only going to be using it when other people need a lift, I need to transport things or if the weather is icey, I don't need anything fast or flash.
front wheel drive sucks, I's look for a 3 series bimmer
