Hello, I'm a n00b :)
I have my eyes on an SV650 K3, 2003, FSH, 18000 miles, 3 month waranty 6 months recovery from dealer, one previous owner, never been dropped, looks great apart from the odd very slight wear and tear.
I am about to pay £2999 for it, is that a good price or am I being ripped off?
I just test drove a similar one yesterday and it blew my socks off! I neeeed one.
Cheers,
Nick

18,000 miles :?:
That's expensive for £3k IMHO :!:

Don't see any point in buying a (naked?) secondhand bike with
substantial mileage for £2999 if you can get a brand new half-faired
bike for £3999: http://www.fowlers.co.uk/.

Mines a W reg 2000 curvy and i got it 2yrs ago with only 7.5k miles on it.
Its got 19.5k on it now so the one youre looking at seem high milage to me.
I believe someone this week posted that they'd bought a new red naked from a dealer for £3699
may have been from George whites?

ok cheers for the fast feedback! I am very poor you see, I can't really afford to go around buying new bikes. They do have an ex-demo K5 unfaired for £3599, with about 5000 miles on the clock.
I like them unfaired, so I would prefer that over the faired ones.
So maybe I should haggle a lot you reckon? it is january after all...
Aargh its so hard, I really really want one, and its hard to keep the grin off my face long enough to bargain from a serious stand point.
(btw, is a "curvy", the older sv with tubular frame?)
I shall let you know more tomorrow after I have seen it again.

You're paying a premium of about £500 for the privilege of buying from a dealer I reckon. I bought my k3 with plenty of extras showing 7k on the clock for £2500 about a month ago.
I'm sure it's tempting to buy from the dealer as it appears a lot less hassle than buying privately. There are plenty of good private sales out there though, have a look on ebay.
A quick search turned this up ...

Looks mint ! Talk to the seller, ask lots of questions and suss out if they're genuine or not. If you're happy with it then make an offer of about 30% less than the asking price as a starter, they can only say no !
good luck.

I also recall people buying new naked SV's for around £3700.
I think even the Fowlers website had offers of new naked SV's for
around £3700-£3800 in the Autumn.

not meaning to gloat, but I'm picking up my mint condition SV650SK5 from a dealer in Canterbury for £2999 tomorrow. It's black, and done 1650 miles.
I'm so excited!
If getting a good deal is your main priority, then private this time of year is the way to go.

I think this bike is pricey given the mileage. Don't let heart rule head. There are plenty of bikes for sale out there. If you buy an overpriced bike you will soon regret it. You'd never sell it for what you're thinking of paying. And if you binned it, with comp insurance, it will only pay out what they think it's worth, not what you paid for it, and there's likely to be a big difference. Don't rush in.
just wait mate, 18000 miles is high mileage against most other k3s out there. There'll be plenty on the market in the next couple of months as people sell them before spring

the k3 sounds like a £2.5k bike to me. as others have said, try to hang on for a better deal.
welcome btw.

Hello again!
I took note of all you have said and some recommendations John gave me, and I now have an SV650!! I paid £2,530 plus part ex on an almost broken 1998 ER5 (no rear brake, no speedo cable, bald tires, no seat) plus the SV had a full service including brand new tires, new chain, new sprocket, new pegs and handle bar, oil, filter etc. It looks almost brand new! Plus 3 months warranty, 6 months recovery.
So anyway, I rode it home this evening through a hailstorm! Heck of an initiation, but I love it already. Its nice to meet you all and thanks for all the advice!
Nick
i seem to remember it hailing a lot when i got my silver one too. Bloody annoying cos it bounces of the fairing/clocks and smacks you right in the face. I guess the naked has the upper hand here...
