speedo problems

After crashing my bike :( I have now got serious speedo problems. Replaced the speedo cable twice but it still reads silly speeds. (177mph when doing about 75mph i reckon :? )

The speedo casing was damaged but I managed to get it plastic welded in work. Everything else works perfect on the clock apart from the MPH reading.



I hope I don't need to replace the clock as I rang Suzuki this afternoon and they told me £305 +VAT for the electronic gubbins alone. :shock:

Any ideas as to a possible cure??

Have you checked the speedo sensor / drive on the front wheel..

Might be worth checking that it didnt get damaged in your crash. They are a bit fragile and easily damaged.

I've been through two in the last 12 months.

It sounds like the pulses are not going through consistently. I would check the rotor and sensor as has been suggested. There is a test that you can do to confirm this, but it involves batteries, resistors and volt meter. Not quite sure of the science of it all, but the volt meter measures the pulses by spinning the front wheel and taking readings from the meter to determine if the correct pulses are being picked up on the rotor.

if its the rotor which are fairly naff then its £15 for a new one so you want to hope its that.

They have 4 teeth on them that seem to snap off very easily. I got a 2nd hand speedo unit for £45. Fairly easy to fit.

as I said in my original post.. I replaced the speedo assembly 2x already. Both came from JHS racing. Neither work..

I also have had done a bit of memory hacking and remembered this since last posting!..

The reason I changed my speedo sensor was because I broke 2 clips when i crashed of the speedo rotor. I glued them back on and it worked really well. I removed the front wheel but didnt align the rotor properly with wheel when refitting. So broke all the teeth of the rotor. I ordered a new one of JHS but it didnt work. I notified them of it sent it back and received a new one but neither work!!?? I took sick inbetween times hence why I am only getting back to it now.

Is it possible I have received a K3 rotor assembly instead of K4? incase they read different amounts of pulses?

totally stumped.

I think my next move is to bite the bullet and order a k4 rotor of suzuki and try that just incase the two rotors I have received from JHS aren't correct for my bike.

The K3 and K4 speedo senders are identical units so dont think its that somehow
