View Full Version : Anyone for a run to mid-Wales ??

I will be dropping off Carsick's vacuum guage back to him in the next few weeks... so will be doing a dash up towards Aberystwyth if anyones interested in tagging along...
will probably take the A470 up, then cut accross... can be a bit more creative on the way back....
Overall a very nice run on the bike, but wrap up warm! I didnt wear enough clothing yesterday, and am now paying for it with a very bad throat!
Didnt plan on it, but ended up that way yesterday.. went out, under severe boredom kept on going up the A470 until i decided it was unwise to go much further, then popped over Aberystwyth way... no police on the way up... plenty of them on the way back down though!
This will be done at short notice though, if the weather forecast looks good, and Carsicks there.... I'll pop up a post day or two before...

Right, as a possible date.. hows the weekend of the 18th/19th sound to anyone?
Ive got a birthday party to go to next weekend.. so next day will be for recovering
but i can do the above dates..
though that could all change, and may end up going on the 11th if weather looks good... but I expect traffic to be chaos around south wales as there will be a rugby game on the sunday.. all those darned Scots coming down here
sorry cant make it that weekend my niece requires my presence for her 5th bday bash in Exeter so I shall be taking the blue beast down there... and that will probably be the last ride out I do on her.. I have decided to sell after a lot of soul searching when the weather turns a little better I will try to sell it.

I hate weather forecasters... I only worked today as they said it was going to rain heavily... well.. I was scorched in the sun this morning... and it was a tad cloudy this afternoon... could have gone up today if I had known it was going to be like that!
Anyone got a forecast for next weekend ??

Lemmings and meself are up for this, i'm meeting him by currys/b&q in pontypridd about 10.00-10.30. so we'll meet up with you then if thats ok.
valleyboy
18-02-06, 05:52 PM
I may as well meet you down there then... I have to go down to that roundabout anyway to get to the old little chef... so currys/B&Q's car park around 10ish.. Im on a green ZX-6R... cant miss it.. honestly!
you'll be on SV's.. so I cant miss you either!
Hello all, there is a slim chance I may be able to come but won't know for sure till the morning, any chance you could post a better description of where you're meeting ( road number etc) as I'm not sure exactly where you mean, i'll post on here first thing in morning to let you know if I can make it.
valleyboy
18-02-06, 06:22 PM
Looks like the meeting point will be in Pontypridd for those of us who are near there.... as we are going up the A470, you could come up from Swansea, and meet in Brecon??
Actualy, you know the heads of the valleys road? A465? you could go up there, and meet in Hirwaun / Aberdare or something.. ?? just a suggestion... I live in Aberdare.. but will still go down to Ponty...
I'll be coming from Cwmbran so it'll be quicker for me to pop down M4 and get off at J32 and go up A470 but do I actually get off at ponty to meet you and if so where exactly will you be?
valleyboy
18-02-06, 06:41 PM
For some strange reason.. I thought you lived in swansea! :?
you would be best taking that route, do you know where B&Q is in Ponty?? possibly in the car park in there... theres a Currys, and a Halfords there as well....
other incase of emerency meeting point will be a petrol garage further up the A470 after Ponty, but before Abercynon roundabout... use to be a little chef there, but its now an indian restraunt.. cant remember if the petrol garage is a Texaco orTotal.. or somehting.. but its the only petrol garage after Ponty along the A470... if you come to a big roundabout on the A470 after ponty, then its a tad too far...
Carsick
18-02-06, 06:48 PM
I think this is the B&Q/Currys http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&search_result=&db=pc&cidr_client=none&lang=&keepicon=true&pc=CF374DA&advanced=&client=public&addr2=&quicksearch=CF37+4DA&addr3=&addr1=
Ok i'll head for B&Q and if i can't find it for some reason i'll head on up the A470 to the petrol station, thats assuming i can come, i'll post for definate in morning.

I really thought you had the waterproofs on to protect your leathers, that was until you started shivering uncontrolably and turing blue!!!
Good ride, nice to meet a few new faces. Cheers for the coffee carsick, although i don't think i'll be doing Aber again unless its sunny enough to warrant an ice cream when i get there! :D
The weather man didnt say it was going to snow today as well!
Must admit I considered tuning around and heading home at that point, what should have been a blast through the twistys around brecon ended up being a 15mph crawl through dense fog and snow

hehehe... I live near enoough to the Beacons for them to be my play ground... been out a few times when the waterfalls by the side of the road were frozen
I was going to stop in Brecon and ask about calling it an early day, but the further we got away from the Beacons, the slightly less grey and foggy it got... so thought may as well go to Builth and ask there..
cant wait for sunny weather, but sadly that brings with it loads of police with their little zap guns  plus I ride like an idiot on my bike now in shait weather.. god help me when my tyres can stick to the road without spinning up on me (did it once or twice today)
Was also funny seeing a convoy of boy racers just outside Rhayader buzzing around, and also hearing Tiggers start up his SV with a MASSIVE backfire that had the entire population of the cafe we were right outside staring through the window at us! ( we were right by its front window too!)

Typical bikers. The others were old biddys, probably kept the cafe toilet busy for hours after we left
Mmmmmmmmm How desperate was I too play games with that Subaru that came leap-frogging up the que of traffic on the A44?
Cheeky git just pulled alongside me indicated left and stared pulling over, left me no choice but to brake and let him in or risk being run off the road! Had a little kid stood in the back seat with no belt on too. :toss:

That knob was an accident waiting to happen. he overtook me in the most awkward place then cut in on valleyboy. Then thought he could overtake every other car on that road. Total tosser. :x
lemmings999

he was a right :toss: :toss:
as he went round the 3rd car ahead of us he nearly hit him and an oncoming car as well
did you see the car that had crashed by the side of the road by the policeman
tiggers1963
19-02-06, 09:10 PM
strange place to lose the car there. it looked like he was coming from ythe opposite direction and lost it on that bend. (by the tyre marks on the road anyway) didn't notice anyone in the car or in the police car come to that

yep, must have either been going a wee bit too fast for the corner (not exactly a hard corner either...) or distracted by something.. but defo looked like it bounced about a bit before it stopped....
I could see the Subaru playing about in my mirrors, so I made room for him to overtake and go infront of me... looks like he had a death wish, as he only took his chances when approaching corners! I wouldnt usualy let someone like that overtake me without a fight  not ideal weather conditions to show him a clean pair of heels though! plus I dont think you lot would have appreciated seeing me bugger off into the distance

I agree, back end was getting twitchy without even pushing it.
The little devil on my left shoulder was shouting "RACE HIM YOU BIG POOF" in my ear but the little angel on my right shoulder was saying "4WD Subaru with psycho driver - leave well alone" safe to say the angel won............just.

I thought we had a good pace all day, without actualy 'pushing' the bikes too hard as well.... I enjoyed myself on most twisty bits.. pin the bike to 60, and stay there going round the bends!
think it was wise of us to keep away from death wish Impreza!
yep pace was good, I just got a little enthusiastic with the throttle coming out of a couple of bends and got the twitches, must be a lovely route in the dry.....

i was gonna clean mine down today, but SWMBO had other plans for me :x
so i guess i'll be doing it tomorrow. there must be about 6" of crap all over the bike :hackedoff:
valleyboy
20-02-06, 08:28 PM
Wouldn't class this as a clean.. just a hoze down, and sponge off the salt on the forks and the back end.. everything else made do with some cold water being sprayed on it...
looks like it will be sunday before it gets cleaned... sorting out new front tyre on friday evening, then off out to swansea for a birthday party.. not expecting to get home until 3am earliest, so I dont think I will be geting up on saturday! also got to prepare it for an MOT and a service.. so will likely strip the thing down to the frame and engine, clean and re-assemble.. hopefully without any nuts or bolts left over at the end!
