What to buy and where to buy them online. I am a size medium in everything.

You could do worse than HG Pathans. They're pretty warm but have limited protection.
HG do a few other winter gloves which aren't bad, can't remember names, though.

I got some Akito sub-zero's 2nd hand (but unused) from ebay. I'd recommend them. Out today and the fingers were getting pretty cold when I got home, but that was fter a good hour;s riding. My other ones would have had my fingers numb in half the time.

One thing - but a size bigger so you can fit undergloves on really cold days.

Cheers Keith

I got some RST winter gloves from ebay for £30. They were realy comfy, a bit tight at first but then they loosed up and now are snug.

Avoid the HG ones that make your hands look like ninja turtle hands, my other half bought a pair & she says their crap, i'm still using my summer gloves as we never seem to have time to go out for more than an hour at the mo.

I love the Pathans- Ninja Turtle gloves. Very warm, and more protective than you'd think when tested- no hard armour though. Spada do a blatant rip-off which is supposed to be slightly more waterproof for about teh same price though.

Another vote for the HG Pathans from me, used them on 350 mile round trip to Bristol in November in freezing conditions, didn't get cold at all. Much better than the Frank Thomas Aqua Roo which are rubbish in the cold.

Only problem, can't make rude hand gestures when using them when you get cut up by cars....

Are you sure they re the same one's? These are water proof and wind resistant with a thermal lining.

I just picked up a pair of Richa Sumits today. To early for a conclusive review, but early impressions are that they're exceptionally warm, lack a bit of "feel", even for winter gloves and don't inspire much confidence in the event of a spill at anything other than round town speeds. I'm hoping they will turn out to be waterproof as they claim. £30 seems a fair price if they are. No armour and the "leather" seems like some imitation man made nonsense.

to be honest i think thats rubbish.

after trying many different jackets, buffalo are up there with the top.
i have the buffalo storm jacket and buffalo pants. best bit of kit i have bought.

they have kept me warm riding 150 miles in the night at -3 (mostly at three figure speeds) . totally breathable, i didnt sweat one bit. where as i have when im wearing thermals under leathers or other textile kit that is around the same price mark.

the kit i have has removable lining and vents for the summer, plenty of pockets and i have found they are not 100 percent waterproof, i do get a little bit of water round my neck - but hey, i havent got a waterproof neck warmer. infact, my buffalo kit does a better job of keeping the water out than my frank thomas waterproof oversuit.

had an off last week wearing my buffalo kit, not a mark or brusie on me, and not even a scuff on the kit.

the jacket comes with decent pads and a pretty solid back protector (which is pretty rare when buying kit)

reflective scotchbrite 3m seams that is actually more reflective than my motrax high vis belt.

windproofing, the correct way to test how windproof kit is, is to light a candle, hold the kit in front of a candle, and blow air (using a hairdryer or such) at the candle through the kit. if the candle blows a little, its not very windproof. authough this isnt very scientific, you can gauge how windproof kit actually is when compared to other bits of kit. . . . and my buffalo storm is definetly windproof :)

and for the price of 80 quid for the jacket and 30 quid for the trousers, id rate them very highly indeed.

when i enquired on here about buffalo kit, people told me they wernt well made and were rubbish, but alas i bought em due to the price, and they are indeed the opposite to what people have said about em, either they have got their act together over the last year or 2, or i am seriously missing something.
you sure you didnt just buy a buffalo summer jacket ?

I have some Frank Thomas ones, says GoreTex on the index finger and Alu-foil thermal lining. Very good with a pair of silk inner liners on long trips. Not too bulky either.

Frank Thomas "Aquaroo's"... Complete waste of money. Not waterproof and not much wind blocking either.

I still say, for £40, try the HG Tourag gloves. They don't look that good but they're excellent for the money.

They're awful aren't they? ;) Most expensive gloves I've ever bought, and just utterly rubbish. Massive and inflexible, yet somehow not very warm or waterproof. And that's before all the velcro falls off. Excellent cuff though, wish I had one of those on the Pathans.

Well you're right they are crap but not for the reasons above. My gloves turned inside out when I took them off at a service station and I had to rip the linings out to put them back on. Bit of a pain as I was about 200 miles from home and it was literally freezing. Sending them back today. :hackedoff: :hackedoff:
