Not alot of places like to fit them unless you buy them form the fitter.

I would pay the extra and get Metzler Z6's, great alround tyres

i had the dunlops fitted to my sv for a short while before i sold it, i didnt have any trouble with them and they were an improvement over the Z4s that it was wearing.

I bought those dunlops from that site great value. Alot of people seem to dislike the 204's but they seem ok to me, cant knock the price.

So how much did you pay for fitting to loose wheels?

Well they're both round and black, and that's about it, neither would encourage spirited riding to be honest.

Mind you they should wear well, but keep it upright

D 204's are probably the best of the two, but not by much, predictable (when warm) but not great fun.

As others have said, if you can get something better, it just detracts from the riding pleasure.

Cheers Mark.

I just need to spend as little as poss but I don't want to ride round on wood for 8'000 mile :?

So what do you think a set of 020's (£140-£170 i think) or somthing about?

Just phoned Hunters in Newcastle they can fit me a pair of Pirelli Dragon Evo tyres for £139. I've never heard of them anyone else used them?

Evos are good, and £139 is pretty cheap.

D204s were fitted as standard to my ZX6, not wonderful, but not a problem either, at that money they've got to be worth a look.

Thanks for that sid.
D204's are £99.99 + £4.95 shipping and £15 fitting so £120. I just found out that I can get Continental Road Attack fitted for £140-145 so I was thinking of going for them.

£25 to fit so £130 all in for 2 new tyres, I thought that was a bargain :)

does anyone know where i can get a set of front and back battle axe bt014's fitted really cheap?? dont mind travelling as it is more mileage to wear them in!!

jonboy

014s, are you sure? Not the best tyre for an SV it seems according to various reports in the past, though a good tyre nonetheless.

Just ordered 2x Conti Road Attacks fitted for £140. I don't even need to take the wheels off. Cheers For the heads up PoRk ChOp.

A place in spennymoor quoted me £140inc fitting so I got National to price match should have them by Sat. If they were a bit closer I would have gone there. Seemed very cheep had some part worn for £15 and a whole host of other new tyres cheeper than I had seen elsewhere.

Thanks to everyone for there advice.

jonboy.

I was origionally going to go for the Pirelli Evo's to find they are not making them anymore?? and the new ones are the dragons which after being told wouldnt be the best tyre for the sv as they are for bigger more powerfull bikes

so the other option was the battle axes - what tyres do you recommend?? for street racing

jonboy
02-02-06, 01:52 PM
I recommend nothing! However I've had 020's, an 010/020 combination, and Conti Road Attacks. Ridden an SV1000 with Pirelli Stradas and they were good too, similar in feel to the 020s.

I like the RAs (though they're very quick to turn it and some peeps don't like this) but will likely go for the Stradas when I next change (in a couple of months) as I like trying different tyres to compare the different qualities.

So would suggest that any of these will do you proud:

Bridgestone 020s
Continental RAs
Pirelli Stradas
Pirelli Diablos
Metzeler Z6s

But browse through the whole tyre section as there are soooo many different opinions...

ok thanks fot that jonboy - which out of all those are the cheapest fitted you have found??

jonboy
02-02-06, 02:25 PM
Probably the RAs. Some peeps have got them fitted for as little as £140 but don't pay more than £160. You can also find the Z6s at around £160 too - but getting 020s cheaper than £190 is difficult (they're now over-priced and perhaps slightly out-dated).

do you guys get Michellen pilot powers over there?? They are majic on a road bike

I'm thinking about pilot powers for my next tyres..

Super soft, super grippy but super pricey :(

jonboy
04-02-06, 10:39 AM
Yes they're expensive and won't last, and to be honest I'm not convinced that you'll be able to fully exploit them on an SV650.

They last pretty well for a softer compound tyre, better than Sportecs apparently...

jonboy

They last pretty well for a softer compound tyre

Maybe, but I think "last pretty well" is a somewhat relative term. I mean 2000 miles as against 1500 is a whopping 33% more...

Come on now, 3000 from a Sportec rear... Most people on SV Rider have been getting 3-5 from a Power- it's their pet tyre, everyone uses them. A Fireblade wouldn't go through a Pilot Power in 2000 miles.

jonboy
04-02-06, 03:54 PM
You slow riders you    . I actually quite fancy them but they're simply not good value for money in comparison to what else is around, even if they are a superb tyre by all accounts.

Well got my Conti Road Attacks fitted this morning and 60miles later (even though i'm going easy) they are a fantastic tyre. They do drag you into the turns but I like it.

Again cheers to everyone for the advice.

They are most definitely worth £140 inc fitting on the bike

jonboy

I know a lot of people think macadams are ****e but i think they are a good tyre i do a lot of commuting and also go about 200-300mile ride at the weekend most weekends on the motorway down far south and these are the ones my tyre fitter fits them for 30 for the 2 hope this helps .

i was going to get the RA's fitted, but i went for the 014's on my CBR a few weeks ago.

previously, i was using 020's - brilliant tyre i got 13k out of a rear  (the guy in the fitters didnt believe me)

I've just taken a set of 020's off. I have only had the bike a week and the tyres were knackered when I got it. Im assuming they are the 2nd set, the bike only had 8.5K when I picked it up and the rear was well square. Apparently I could measure right angles with it

jonboy
05-02-06, 10:16 AM
Although I've had 6k out of an 020 rear it was definitely well below legal limits, and the least miles I've had was the summer of 04 when I got just 3500 miles from a rear  .

But 13k? :-dd Man, I'd be embarrassed to admit that - you've got guts   .

Inept throttle inputs and club-footed rear braking will wear a tyre fast ;)

jonboy
05-02-06, 02:29 PM
 Maybe. I'm not pretending that I didn't give my SV everything I could throw at it, just that it's possible to wear an 020 rather quickly if you've a mind to do so. I think BigApe got through an M-1 rear in 1500 miles, but admittedly he doesn't use his front wheel too much  .

whats the difference between road attacks and sport attacks??

cheers

jonboy
05-02-06, 07:27 PM
A different compound and a far more sports orientated focus (meant to be the equivalent of Pilot Powers):

I think RA's have a harder compound around the centre so you get more mileage out of them as your doing motorway etc. Where as SA's are softer and grippier but don't last as long.

Saying that I can't belive how good the RA's are.

Saying that I can't belive how good the RA's are.

You wait till the warm weather arrives, then they get really sticky and so hot after a fast ride that you can't rest your hand on them  . Goodness knows what the Sport Attacks are like...

Fitting is £14 so its not too bad but if your only getting 3k instead of 6-7k then its very expensive

jonboy
07-02-06, 10:36 AM
£14 fitting to two loose wheels (including balancing?) is very cheap, it's about £12 a tyre round here.

But I last paid £160 ride-in/ride-out for the RAs which I thought was a fair price, though as you'll have read, someone else got then fitted for £145.

Either way they're a great tyre for the money (in my opinion) and certainly a fair bit cheaper than 020s.
