View Full Version : Beklin wireless router help
hi, got a beklin cable router (got it today) and connected it all up and stuff.
got wireless pci card in my computer, can connect to the internet using the router.
have had no trouble setting up WEP encryption for my wireless network and setting the routers password.
however, here is the problem.
if u use internet explorer its fine, runs without a problem,.
however, if i use any other program, the router kinda shuts down. the all the lights on the front go off except for the modem light (even the power light goes off) and you cannot find it when i search for wireless networks.
but when i unplug and plug it back in again it comes alive again.
ive tried updating the firmware for the router, but it wont let me, says the firmware is not compatible with my router. (even though on the website it says it is)
any ideas ?
any idea what could be up with it ?
oh and outlook express seems to work ok.
msn says it cannot connect .. . please try later.

ive tried accesing the router using my laptop and a ethernet cable, but no luck with that either, i can get into the router and change its settings, but no internet related programs work at all.

Besides throwing it at a wall, if its only internet related programs and application have any firewall settings been changed (whether it be software or hardware as in router configuration)

My mate's got a Belkin and has has loads of trouble with it refusing to work for no apparent reason. He advised me to avoid them like the plague, so I bought a Netgear this weekend and it seems to work fine. Can you take it back, say it doesn't work and exchange it for a different make?

I'm on my third Netgear wireless router
It's still as flaky as hell - I wouldn't buy another
In the 3 wireless networks I look after we have a Swamru, Netgear and a Belkin! All perform superbly - just to give a thumbs up for them...!
I have problems with my belkin dropping the connection, but I think it's to do with the line...
Ive used Zyxel stuff for years at work without 1 hitch. Not sure about some of the new stuff the the Prestege stuff is good.
3xADSL routers for nearly 4 years without any problems.

My Linksys loses wireless (or I lose wireless to it) with both laptop and PDA sometimes even tho the wireless light is on and the device is litterally attached to the aerial.
I have put this down to passing ships or my central heating or next doors cordless telephone.
A far cry from BaB's denial tho
ok, i got myself a new wireless router, exchanged it at pcworld.
the new one isnt shutting down every 5 mins
however, now i can only achieve download speeds of around 50kbs
anyone have any ideas?
