Just looked at the little window on my SV650S and there seems to be nothing left in the old oil department on the bike *gulp*.

If the bike had NO oil would i get the red oil signal on my dash?

I plan to change the oil filter soon enough, but dont want to do it at the moment and give the bike a little bit of a spruce....will it be ok to just top the bike up for now to make sure that its not running DRY!

Any reccomendations oil wise? Price not really an issue!

Is the bike on the side stand?

No oil will show in the window if the bike is on the stand. You have to hold the bike upright to check oil level.

Have you run the bike at all or is it cold. You might not see any oil if its cold/been standing.

Just be sure to check it regularly mate. You really dont want your engine seizing up on you one day.

And yes you can just top it up from time to time.
I'm well overdue and oil change but like you have not got round to it yet, so i keep an eye on it and top up when needed.

And if you really dont deserve to own it you can happily give it away....to me :)

What's a quart?

You should put the SV on it's main stand and read the oil then.

Good tip for the future that.

Err...which main stand would that be then?

Eerrr.... No you shouldn't!

Stand the bike upright to check the oil.

What's a quart?

If you are American then it's about 3 teaspoonfuls!

two US pints, 32 fluid Ounces, or just under a litre., take your pick.

US Pint = 4/5 of a UK pint, much to my dismay when I lived over there.

Oh...educated under the metric system.

Litres it is then.

The main stand is the imaginery main stand that the SV650 should come with.

at least we pretty much use the same system of measurment

you still go miles instead of kilometers, I never understood

We will never go that metric. I popped into my local shop a few weeks ago and asked for a 1/4 of Jellybeans. "How many grams is that?" she aked. Feck knows I want 1/4 of a pound as in 4 ounces.

For years I told people struggling with hexidecimal what is your problem we in the UK have been working with base 16 and base 14 for donkeys years as in 16oz = 1lb. 14lb = 1 Stone.

What is it with you damm yanks who express a persons weight in lb. First thing I have to do is divide it by 14 to visualise

Today in school they only teach kids their multiplication tables up 10. As they dont see a need to go to 12. Worst thing we ever did was to get rid of LSD. It confused Johnny Foriegner, but made our kids use they grey matter.

Still I think my daughter has learned to live in the real world. She knows if she talks metre at me she will not get a response. I measure in inches/ feet. Not mm/cm/metre etc.
